India cricket continues to pursue outdated thinking including feeling the need to adjust a player based on his past record (at times, trying to be diplomatic). Only openers should have fixed spot, others should be rotated based on form, conditions, and match situation.

Kohli at no.4 would be an absolute disaster. His attacking game against the spinners is absolutely pathetic and will cost us big if he's facing most of the deliveries in the 8-16th over period. 

 

Similarly, him opening will also be catastrophic. He'll hit two or three good looking shots and then proceed to tuk tuk at 110 SR for the rest of the innings just for the sake of anchoring. 

 

Currently, Kohli's only value to the Indian t20 team is if we're chasing a below par total against a good attack like in the last game.

Kohli if he has to play is best suited to open.  Beyond PP he is not good enough.  He can play serious fast bowling & absorb pressure in case of a tricky chase.  SKY is best suited at no 3.

I personally believe no.4 is the ideal spot for SKY and he should continue there. I don't think he has the temperament or the technique to come in at 0/1 against a bowler with his tail up and survive. 

 

But if we somehow are off to a flying start (highly unlikely with the current washed up opening pair), he should definitely be promoted to keep up the momentum.

VK is poor vs spin of all kinds, hence he will just get run a ball in MO. Right now i feel only opening suits

I don't know where people are getting this "Kohli is good in the PP" thing. His ability to pick out gaps has gone to dogs and he's way too selfish to hit those risky inside out lofted shots like Rohit does. More often than not, we'll end up with 40/1 type powerplays against half decent bowling attacks.

I'll still take him over Kela...  Who has literally stopped playing aerial strokes contrary to Kohli who is trying lofted shots all of a sudden.  Guy is playing pace really well but beyond PP he goes out of shots vs spin.  Today he played slog sweeps vs some mediocre spinners who were bowling slower.

When there was  a free hit he showed intent. He received far worse deliveries. Didn't try to go after them. Basically he is selfish

I will go with this same combination too. 

 

SKY should be at 3 and maximize the scoring opportunities the most. Opening can be sometimes a bit vulnerable situation as the new ball might swing and chances of failure could be higher for someone who plays 360° like SKY.

 

Let Rohit and Kohli be our Babar and Rizwan and then we have got enough firepowers to maximize from there.
