why is Rahul opening in a T20 game?

his game was never about big hitting or even consistent hitting.I dont know who decided he would be a good T20 opener but he needs to resign from whatever team he is coaching right now.

Who decided he would ba a good opener, what? He, in fact, is the best opener in this format we ever had. His sluggishness is due to consistent breaks.

He was okay when he had positive mindset. Remember he eached 50 in 2.5 overs of the innings against Boult, Shami, Mishra. For whatever reason he started batting like Dhoni. In 2022 IPl in every single innings his first 6 over performance was terrible.

Opening in T20 best suits him.

Keeping aside all the anger I have against him, can't deny he is a mighty good opener with very good record and can win games on his day.

His style may not be best suited for these wickets and he will take his time to come good after long rest but I can see TM will stick to gun and take him to world T20.

Till he was batting normally he was one of top 5 players in world cricket with highest s/r in powerplay

Up until a year ago he was the best T20I batsman from India. His form has nose dived ever since.

His game went downhill when he became Captain of Punjab. Otherwise when on song,he is the best T20 batter for India..Scored hundred coming in MO against WI chasing 246,another hundred against England in England chasing 160.

I recall his 100 while opening & tears on the milestone. This seems like another person now. 

 

Plus its generally stupid to keep the same opener in tests as well as T20s. He adapted his game for Eng & SA tests and now he needs to go crash boom bang again. Selectors must have an IQ of a frog.

When he wasnt a regular in the team, he played like Butler and when he became a permanent player he started playing like old Dhoni. Unfortunate but that's how most players in India are..

Captaincy ka bhoot savar hai us par. In the first season as captain, he had players like Pooran, Maxwell poorly failing in the MO and he started batting like the whole team is depending on him. Now , he bats in India also in the same way as he was made the stand-by captain or vice-captain . Nikal do woh bhoot unse, he should play for his spot in the team, probably he will go back to his old self.

Only reason he is breathing easy is because Dhawan was never in the picture. Prithvi shaw is out of the picture due to fitness issues. Ruturaj could not replicate his IPL consistency. The day India finds an opener who can be consistently aggressive at the top, he will be in the hot seat. Who knows it could be Gill or Jaiswal

How many matches did Rahul play this year. he has been injured a lot.Ability is not the issue with Rahul in t20s. Mindset is the issue, even in IPL he has become a compiler than a dasher.

But, is the Indian team the venue for him to work on his game until he can break his shackles?  Shouldn't he be practicing elsewhere before being picked to compete at the highest level? That's what gets me.

KL Rahul's style has been to take it long and bat for 15-20 overs.  It's during those death overs that he really explodes.  But then begs the question, why not just bat him down the order and have a dasher like Shaw open the innings.

Rahul needs  someone like Shaw at the other end to complement his style.

He is the classic example of most talented but the most under performing player. At 30, his record is not that great. He started playing 8 years ago. You need to do justice with your talent. This is where Kohli was special in late 20s. He was freak. Compare Kohli and Rahul at 30. Batsmen have their best period between 28-32 and sadly he is losing that in injuries and wrong mindset. Another unfortunate thing is he can be your captain post WC 2023.

No one is gonna reach the levels of Kohli.He and Tendulkar are right at the top of tree.

 

Question with KL is that will he achieve even as much as Rohit did?

3 of these outings are against associates.  1 against Pak.   But no one can question his place as an opener.   Why?    Coz he is our Vice Captain.
