I hope Sundar takes over the mantle. He will be a massive improvement in terms of batting and hopefully Ashwin will mentor him as an off-spinner.

I had marked Abhishek Sharma for Jaddu but his progress has been slow - especially bowling..

True, great presence of mind . Nawaz just choked. Eggsperience is key

As per Kohli's interview he asked Ashwin to hit over cover.

That was very cool and collected of him to come in, face the final ball and scoop it gently for the win! You have to hold your nerves and he did with aplomb.

His batting cant be the reason he continues in Indian side.

Playing red ball after a long time. Needs to get his control back. Give him some time he has earned it.

And the same argument can be made about Pujara or Kohli, at least by their fans. He is living on past reputation, no doubt in Jadeja's absence he's the best spinner in Asia but his time overseas should really be up now! Avg well under 20 away with the bat & over 30(35?) with the ball in S.E.N.A. Kuldeep should be the first name on the team sheet as a spinner :om:

I don’t think he will be around for the next overseas trips. And anyways Jadeja has been the preferred overseas spinner for a long time.  In the subcontinent atleast, it is madness to question his place in the side.

Not for a long time, only since 2020 NZ tour & that too because of his batting!

yes but atleast he is contributing in some way. 6 wickets this Test too.

Others need to go before him.

Not really, even Jadeja's bowling has declined since the home series against RSA in 2019. Just that his phenomenal run with the bat has masked his bowling deficiencies.

Ashwin still better with the ball, Jadeja our MVP because of his batting+fielding, but seriously both are past their prime in their primary department...age/injuries won't make it any easier. Have to manage somehow, just see off this Aus threat and then we can look past these two. For future tests in SC the trio of Kuldeep, Axar, Sundar, can be looked at...for SENA tests either Kuldeep or Sundar (green top where even wristy is rendered useless).....though I believe the latter can play as pure batter as well.

Yes they deserve a farewell series. Pity it's against Aussies who have the potential to upset us. Both are legends in their own right though. Pure matchwinners in Asia.

India will have massive to void to fill once Jaddu-Ashwin retires.. Can't believe that 2013 Australia series was 10 years ago, feels like it was yesterday, The starting of Jaddu-Ash combo !!!

Yes, still remember criticism of Jaddu's selection as he was thought as LOI option and people wanted Ojha. Both have been massive

Jadeja is still the better bowler on flat Asian pitches - case in point Kanpur vs NZ last year, or SL in Mohali this year. And I've posted the numbers on flat tracks against SA, Eng, Oz in India numerous times. Yes Jadeja's regressed overall as a bowler but he's still better on flat pitches, away from Asia I wouldn't pick either just for their spin right now!
