Who's gonna be your no. 8 ? 4 tailenders back to back.
Team will be 270-6 to 280 allout in no time.

Among experts and fans.

I disagree SKY could be major hit even in tests.David Warner was chosen to play test cricket based on his t20 skills and he will end up as the best Aussie batsman of this generation in all formats.

Sure there will be some exceptions.

People are now raving about Gill in odis but do you think he will be able to do what Ishan Kishen did in Bangladesh?

Problem is not format illiteracy but preconceived notions about players. Those notions kept Dhoni in t20 team for more than decade without doing anything just based on his IPL wins..It literally took Dhoni to score 10 plus years his first t20 fifty.

Samething  with Pandya .This guy is somehow being thought has new age attacking player when in reality he stinks in both batting and bowling.

Rahane kept his place in the team for a deade based on few flukey early innings.

May be an image of ‎2 people, people standing and ‎text that says "‎SURYA KUMAR YADAV IS SELECTED IN TEST TEAM AFTER SCORING HEAVILY IN T20S. CricSpirit Where Whe bיר LiBur WHILE PRITHVI SHAW IS SELECTED IN T2OIS AFTER SCORING IN RANJI TROPHY. BCCI ALWAYS AMAZES US WITH THEIR SELECTION!‎"‎‎

I agree that format illiteracy exists: but these two selections are not the best examples of it (Mukesh Kumar in T20Is definitely is)

Prithvi is a good T20 bat, if anything that is his best format. A rare Indian bat whos SR is 150+
The Ranji runs show he is in form and touch, after a mixed start so a good basis to go on. He had a good SMAT a few months ago.

SKY is less clear, the thing to say is having someone who can play aggressive in general, but especially sweep vs spin is a useful tool. We are too conservative in our approach and arguably need to step away from orthodox inside the box thinking and see what someone like him can offer. Not that he will play.

I would have liked to see Sarfaraz in instead though.

The SKY & Shaw examples are misleading as, at times, selectors are looking to move players (SKY) in other formats too based on potential, and players who could have missed out in a format can send a reminder to selectors about their form by performing in any format (Shaw).

Seeing that pathetic shot of Gill ( luckily catch dropped ) I am sure 50+ aged cricket fans would go mad. BCCI - There is no chance of multi-format players - no chance at all. You pick them and they would probably do well in couple of formats at one time and fail miserably in the other. And then may be improve in the format they are failing but end up going down in the other format.

No way in hell that a player would be good in all three formats at the same time. Even if he is ( may be Bumrah? ) its a freak of nature.. don't ever assume that it would be the norm.
