Should Indian team have batted longer?

6.5 sessions (192 overs) given to the opposition. 150-160 overs was enough to dismiss BD team.

 

Indian batsmen haven't got much opportunities in test cricket in past. They are either playing tests on difficult batting surfaces or playing LOIs. They really needed some time in middle to get back to the form and it was easiest opportunity.

U know there is not much assistance for the bowlers when gujara is scoring at SR of 80 for long time.   There is absolutely no chance of rain in next 2 days.   Should hv batted atleast 15 overs tomorrow.  That could hv allowed loli to get back the much needed momentum into his batting, for rest of the test series.

Absolutely, they could have batted till lunch tomorrow, rubbed Bangladeshis down to the dust, get a lead of 750 odd and try and win this test by a margin of 500 runs, only that would have avenged the ODI series loss, but you cant expect such hot blood from the meek Rahul & Rahul.

Not longer but smarter and more proactively. 300-8 would've been better than 258-2 in 60 overs. 550+ lead.

 

Can't blame Gill or Pujara as they batted with good SRs. KL was absolutely garbage in the way he approached his innings.

They should have declared earlier. If you cannot get opposition out under 400 runs in fourth innings then you don't deserve to win.

 

Playing safe is most stupid way to play test cricket.

1)  The broadcasters are constantly highlighting that Days 4 and 5 become much easier for batting here. The average wickets per day are pretty low on Days 4 snd 5.

 

2)  By batting longer, the Indians could have niggled the fitter BD bowlers and this could have helped in the next test. 

 

What was the need to declare today ?  

 

Declaring at lunch tomorrow would have been ideal with atleast 150 overs left.

If the wicket is going to get easier, then wickets will mostly fall to batsmen errors than bowler brilliance.

 

Declaring at lunch tomorrow would mean that BAN would simply shut up shop. As it stands, they still have an outside chance to cause a remarkable upset, so the incentive to attack and make mistakes is still there. 

 

If our bowlers can't defend 500+ to this BAN team, then we should just stop considering ourselves as a top team.

Batters don't have the ability to shut shop these days, especially BD batters.

Aussies batted for just 30 overs in second innings and declared even though they had two full days in last test against WI.Aussies have declared on many occasions early than playing safe.That is why they have won so much.

 

They  are always willing to lose a match in order to get a win. That is the agression we need in our cricket rather than playing safe against Bangladesh or going gaga over some batting by England.
