In regards to Messi vs Tendulkar, its clearly Messi. This WC Final performance and winning it for Argentina takes his greatness to another level. Sachin needed to do a Messi vs Sri Lanka and score a century at the Wankhede and singlehandedly win the WC for India. That would elevated him to God like status.

Well bat tampering isn't a thing in cricket, so poor Sachin couldn't boost his stats the way IK did lol. 

 

On a serious note, No way was Imran as good a bowler as Sachin was a batter. His Away bowling record isn't nearly as good as Tendulkar's Away batting record. IK boosted his stats at home due to rampant ball tampering and shady Pak umpires. 

 

Tendulkar performed better away than he did at home. Plus he was a decent part time bowler himself. Won several matches with the ball.

Messi is much greater than SRT. SRT is perhaps (and there will be many who dispute this) Ind's greatest ever cricketer, but Messi is one of top 3-4 of all time. Tendu is not in that category.

 

however, the OP's post is not about tendu vs messi - it's about their last WCs. I think Messi's contribution was far more immense, although Tendu did play a great role in his own swansong WC
