Ind v England post match

Recommended Posts

Saw a pre match thread, thought it would not be a bad idea to do a post match one too where everyone can post their opinions and analysis instead of using the match thread.

We did exceedingly well to defend this total today imo considering dew and Sirajs under par performance. The sl match in the asia cup was also similar where the batting conditions were better in the second half and we defend 213.

Reality check - having been reduced to 229 the other top teams would have got much closer than Eng did who are mentally shot with the bat

That is just an insult to Indian bowlers.

Today fast bowling by Bumrah and Shami was bowling of highest order.England were trying but they were just not good enough.

No team in this World Cup would have withstood today’s fast bowling ,Shami’s first spell was high quality seam bowling .

Genuinely believe India's great bowling is helping mask a few issues with our batting order. We havent had to chase a huge score yet and be tested. Similarly first time we set a score and really felt it was a good 50 runs short. Our bowlers will have the occasional off day.

We cannot rely on Hitman consistently delivering for us, others must do their part.

SKY and KL did good, but should have stuck around longer and added more. India needed one of them to stay till the 49th.Bumrah with some late runs in the innings was good to put a decent enough score to add pressure while chasing.

Right up there with the most beautiful things to watch in cricket - on par with Rohit Sharma's nonchalant pull shot, Tendulkar's backfoot cover drive, Jadeja's direct throws to the wicket, VVSL's signature cover drive - is that spherical object leaving Mohammed Shami's hand.

The mesmerisingly straight seam seemingly smiling gleefully at the batsman as it starts its journey, whispering to the batsman "you poor little silly man, you have no idea what I am about to do as soon as I kiss that soil."

And next thing you know .... The END.

Shami owning Stokes for 2 full overs culminating in that desperate hoick after which he got cleaned up will be an enduring memory for me. You see those sort of spells in test matches where the ball is really doing a lot.

So far Gill has failed to impress. Hope he picks up for the rest of the tournament.

Still think Jaiswal should have been in the 15 and given a few chances to open. But that’s a moot point now.

It is ridiculous to keep Jaiswal out purely because of this being a world cup. So what? He is in red hot form and offers LHB advantage. NZ have shown confidence in youngster Rachin and are reaping the rewards. We OTOH close the doors for new player selection a good one-two years before the world cup itself!

He and Prasidh should have been there

ICC must make it 18 members squad rather than 15
