Please can someone explain the abnormal fascination and "love" that Pakistanis have for Kohli....( vs.Tendulkar )

Recommended Posts

I clearly remember during Tendulkar's era how greenbros would adopt Ponting, Lara...whoever was in form and downplay SRT's greatness by doing a skewed comparison.

But when it comes to Kohli....even if Kohli spanks Pak and Pak loses badly Pak cricket fans seem to celebrate Kohli.

What explains this difference ?

Is it a Punjabi connection thing ?

Is that problem that Pakistanis love Kohli???

They have been very disrespectful of SRT, the common man, even the players...suggesting he was just a stats builder and not a "match winner " ....like Lara, Inzamam, Ponting ...etc etc.

But even if Kohli sets fire to  Pakistan, it seems they would be okay with it.  Never expected them to have such crazy adulation for an Indian player. Surprised.

They admire the personality more than the player as they they see him as one of them.

Petulant, impulsive, always doing monkey business on the field with false aggression that is so glorified in northwestern India and Pakistani society. Anybody who has seen Pakistani players during 90s or before will know what I mean. They used to appeal the sam way how Kohli does today trying to falsely bully opponents and umpire.

Oye, how dare you ?? Tuhaddi chaddi buddy :hysterical:

Kohli gained more currency among the Pak populace after the platitudes he earned from the ex and current Pak cricketers (Cricket Walis) on TV and social media.

As for why Pakistanis "love" Kohli it's mostly trolling behavior because they know it will trigger the likes of the OP.

Nah, it goes much deeper than some sophisticated irony, as you are implying. Many Pakistanis that I know in US, UK, elsewhere do genuinely rate(d) Kohli very highly, even more than some Ind fans did during his trough of 2020-22. something about him genuinely appeals to most pakistanis

So true! Their love for Virat is a coping mechanism for repeat losses to his team. Also, the Paxis are very clever and cunning - they know which bandwagon to hop on. Praise Kohli, and soak in goodwill plus views for their social media accounts. To his credit, Kohli has charmed them nicely and keeps milking wins from right under their noses time after time. May they shower all the love on him while we grab all the wins.

Kohli is Punjabi which is basically 65% of Pakistan I believe. So cultural familiarity. Also roots in Pakistan (Almost all Delhi Punjabis tbh)

Also Kohli has beaten them down a lot.

That's why them also admire Dhoni and Yuvraj (who again is Punjabi).

Also something they don't have generally - a quality batsman. On the other hand, they hesitate to rate Indian pacers because admitting that would mean they would lose the one thing they had over India.

Kohli is a Punjabi...that's one crucial factor. Most of Pakistani's who admire him are Pakistani Punjabi's

He also usually softer against Pak in terms of on-ground behaviour. You won't see him giving maa-behen to them just like he gives with other teams.

His admiration and love for Amir actually garnered him a lot of votes. When the whole world was passing him as a fixer, Kohli was first to give him "clean chit"..not that matter anyway but Pakistanis always a sense of approval from India. Kohli gave them that.

sehwag is another one they like a lot.

Don't blame them when we play Chahal, BK and Thakur year after year. Remember Thakur got a debut ahead of Siraj even when the latter was running through line ups in Ranji. Pakistanis can only rate what they see.

@Vijy - People have given all sorts of explanations for this..but you are a bloody genius.

You hit the nail on the head when you used the words - Stockholm Syndrome.

Thats exactly what it is.  It is a sickness that is in the DNA of that awaam.

More exact evidence of this stockholm syndrome ?

1) The Afghanis, Turks, Uzbeks ( Mughals ) ...who invaded, looted, plundered and converted current day Pak - they have their missiles ( Ghori, Ghaznavi  and prestigious institutions named after them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghaznavi_(missile)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghauri_(missile)

2) Their army which has ruled Pak, looted and plundered the common man and destroyed democracy has for the longest time been deeply "respected " by them.

.....same logic applies here.

Moral of the story is if you want to be respected by Greenbros, hammer, maim and plunder them.

Truth be told, borders change all the time (what is 80 years in human existence?), people change religion but you cannot change your DNA makeup. Kohli is a Punjabi at the end of the day. May people fail to realize undivided Punjab before independence was among biggest ethnicity in the world. Only Bengalis rival Punjabis in sheer number.
