A case in favour of Virat Kohli and why we should support him in troubled times

BCCI want to give an over extended rope just to see if he can regain back his form.

 

The pleasure he has given to we fans between 1897  till 1914 WWI was immense and can never be forgotten. Think we can all give him back a little bit more support now when he is down.

 

I think we as fans should be behind Sunil Gavaskar in this troubled times and hope he had a great BGT.

Gavaskar got one ODI hundred!!

@ OP: No batsman in the history of Indian cricket has been able to maintain his place in the team after 3 successive years of no Test hundreds. He has been given a very long rope, even longer than Tendulkar got and we all thought that Tendulkar was dragging his heels towards the end of his career. Along with his Test form, he was under-performing in ODIs and T20s and yet kept his place in all the teams.

 

Indian cricket will go nowhere with this kind of individual centric approach of many fans. We don't owe Kohli anything. Rather, he owes Indian cricket for persisting with him for so long despite not contributing to the team cause. He has made his millions, he has got himself and his family a great life and he had gained a lot of fame all thanks to Indian cricket and fans like all of us.

 

Let's never think that any individual is greater than the game or the country and that the game or the country owes them something!

To be fair, Kohli had a legendary overseas cycle in 2018 on some of the toughest pitches ever.

 

Was great in SA 2013 too.

 

England he sucked except 2018.

 

Aus - he has had great outings.

Gill was at least trying to put a price on his wkt and his dismissal was due to a technical issue. But Rohit's hoick showed he doesn't really puts a price on his wkt. And as for Kohli, his dismissals have shown he simply doesn't have it in him anymore. I can roll my arm over pretending to bowl spin and Kohli would probably get out.

 

We've had anough of Kohli's failures since 2019 and it wasn't as if he was lighting up the world before then. His best innings came in meaningless bilaterals with barely any impact. Whenever we needed him to stand up he was the first one to run away with tail between his legs. As an example 2015 WC SF, 2017 CT Final, 2019 WC SF, 2 WTC Finals, and the 2020121BGT when he literally ran away. The Indian team has looked better without Kohli as we saw during 2020-21 BGT and the Eng series at home where Jurel looked hundred times better than Kohli. And we're seeing how good the T20 looks compared to our Test and ODI teams with geriatric Kohli in it. Enough of him and can't wait for him to just phuck off to IPL and try win something there.

Sunil Gavaskar is evolution's favorite child. He is that typical comedian in the dreaded villains gang always turning to the hero's side in the climax scene.

All his life? Kohli was only good in test cricket for 4-5 years between 2014-2018. Averaging in low 30s since 2019.

If Kohli plays in Australia it will be because of utter cowardice by the BCCI, a complete inability to take tough decisions by ICT management, and entitlement of the worst kind from him. 

 

Nothing in the last five years in Tests consistently suggests that Kohli should be given a rope, short or long.
 

Past performance - from five years ago, right up to last week, suggests he should be dropped.

 

The evidence of one’s eyes (e.g. that full toss out) suggests he should be dropped.

 

The absence (he didn’t even play) of performances at a lower level (Ranji) suggests he should be out. 
 

The caliber of the next opponent, and the importance of the Test series, suggests he should be out.

 

There is not one metric or justifiable reason I can think of that suggests that Kohli should play the BGT.

Agree with OP. It's only been five years since he started sucking in tests. We can give him 5 more years and just build the team around him. Results can wait, we need to have patience with the goatest of goats.
