"Great sense of relief and satisfaction": Ravichandran Ashwin after announcing retirement

Quote

“It’s emotional for a lot of people, and maybe it will sink in but for me, it is a great sense of relief and satisfaction. It was very instinctive and it has been running in my head for a while. I just felt (it) on Day 4 and I just called it a day”

“It is not a big decision as far as I am concerned because I am going to embrace a new path,”

When asked about missing out on India captaincy during his career, the Tamil Nadu cricketer said, “I can’t do it now. I have no such regrets. In fact, I have zero regrets. I have seen from a distance those people with regrets but I don’t have any such regrets.”

“To be honest, we all go through a lot in our career, not only for cricketers but in general. Generally, when I go to sleep I remember a lot of things like taking wickets, making runs, but those memories are not there in the last two years.

“So, that was a clear indication that we need to take a different route now,” Ashwin said.

“I think that part for me is still burning bright. I am going to play for CSK and don’t be surprised if I aspire to play for as long as I can. I don’t think Ashwin the cricketer is done, I think only Ashwin the Indian cricketer [has] called time. That’s it,” he said.

You should read Open by andre agassi. Makes these parents seem like kids..

Tennis has many such scary dads, in more recent times Tsitsipas. Dokic's case is even worse than Agassi's.....her career is the biggest 'what if' in women's tennis behind Seles' stabbing.

Sharapova's dad is an exception. Sacrificed everything for his daughter, and when she found success, understood his limits as a parent, stepped away from coaching/managing, and told her he was just her dad henceforth, walked away from the tennis world.

Father's name is also Ravichandran??

Think that's how it works in TN. Father's name becomes one's surname.

Viswanathan Anand's father was Krishnamurthy Viswanathan, and his son is Anand Akhil.

These people should learn to maintain a low profile and not live their lives through their children. Their kids are individuals, grown up, have seen the world more than them, understand their game better.

Another one

Sundar's father was disappointed with his score in his debut innings in Gabba. Blasted tailenders saying they couldn't stay even for a short while to help him get his 100.:giggle:

Yeah remember that, but I think it was Ahmedabad 2021 test against England where he got stranded on 96 due to Siraj's usual stupidity. Had a good rant about our tailenders :phehe:

Matter closed.

Blame the media and its viewers more, for throwing bait to old people with no media training, in emotional times, just for views.

Ashwin's father's statement can be justified, ashwin may have thought tht way. But those kind of statements do not help in long run.

Ashwin putting out an statement saying not media trained is all he can do, at least from the video, the interviewer did not push Ashwin's father for that statement.

But good that Ashwin retired when he was still on the top, he lost 1 series at home and said that's it for him. Hope some other Ind superstars also take a cue.

"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain."-- Think Ashwin chose to be hero here.

Slow sports news day, hence picked on whatever could make news. There are enough Ambedkar related tu-tu-mai-mai  fights to ramble on today.

Exactly. Not one person or news channel is taking about weakening of rupee. Every one worried about humiliation of Ashwin or Rahuls push pull

These Players family members need to learn to stay out of their professional business, these players are grown ups and can handle their own stuff.

I have never seen in any other country family members speculating as in India, or interfering in professional careers of players.

Ashwin's retirement and other seniors is pretty much due.
