Morkel reportedly got a bit reserved for the rest of the tour after facing Gambhir's fury. Morne Morkel's Act That Left Gautam Gambhir Furious On Australia Tour Revealed In BCCI Meeting (PTI) ndia coach Gautam Gambhir reportedly pulled up bowling coach Morne Morkel for arriving late for a practice session during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to the report in Times Of India, Gambhir, who is very strict about discipline, did not take it lightly when Morkel came late for the practice session, and the former India cricketer reprimanded him publically. A source told TOI that Morkel became reserved for the rest of the tour after facing Gambhir's fury. India suffered a 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after which BCCI called up a meeting to review India's horrible outing on the tour. The Gambhir-Morkel act is the latest addition to multiple incidents of unrest in the Indian dressing room that have come to light in the last few days. “Gambhir is very strict about discipline. He reprimanded Morkel immediately at the ground. The board has been told that Morkel was a bit reserved during the rest of the tour. It is up to these two to sort it out to allow the team to function smoothly,” a BCCI source told TOI. Meanwhile, the defeat raised questions on the role of assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate in team India. The BCCI reportedly has sought a response from the players if Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are bringing anything new to the table. "Batting coach Abhishek Nayar is particularly under the scanner. Gambhir himself has been an accomplished batter. The board has asked the players if Nayar is bringing anything new to the table. Similarly, Doeschate's role is being discussed. His lack of international experience and ability to contribute to enhancing an international cricketer's performance is being questioned," the source added. The BCCI is unlikely to take any immediate actions, however, if the team does not do well in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, the coach and the support staff could get into trouble. Its obvious GG wants all focus to be on him that he's some tough guy berating his assistant coach in front of everyone. The decent thing that any top coach will do is have a talk with him 1 on 1 and be soft but firm on what he wants out of him. GG seems to have a tall poppy syndrome. Having him as coach won't be good in the long run. As much as we want fatman and lolly to leave, gg also needs to leave. Muloghonto, bowl_out, Lord and 1 other 2 2

For better or worse we will see what GG is made of in a year's time at best which will decide how we see his tenure. By then most probably the gruesome twosome will not be around.

bowl_out Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 (edited) This is more like the "Gavaskar criticizes" thread. Time to create a "Gambhir is upset about" thread. Guy is upset about everything except questioning his own credentials as coach. Gambhir is upset about: 1. superstar culture 2. Morne morkel not coming on time 3. Jaiswal missing the team bus 4. Kohli for traveling with his wife 5. Ashwin because he retired 6. Rohit because he didn't retire 7. Pant for playing a reckless shot 8. Bumrah for getting injured 9. Dhoni for stealing credit 10. Media for using Dhoni's 2011 picture Reminds me of a movie spoof (Naatamai I think) where the leader of a panchayat releases a judgement that everyone in the village is banished from entering the village... to which someone replies, "instead of that, isn't is easier if you leave the village and go somewhere else". Found it very pertinent to Gambhir's situation @vvvslaxman @Stan AF do you remember this scene? Found it. Edited January 15, 2025 by bowl_out Gollum, Stan AF, Number and 3 others 6

In Gambhirs case I think he was getting all the credit for Chandrakant pandit who is an even more hard nosed and no nonsense character than him.

IPL is an event and frankly coaches are part of event management for 35-45 days. Mostly it all depends upon who they got in the auction and how the 35-34 days of event goes for what they got in the auction. If they need some kind of player they can buy them. Intnl cricket is still different and yes IPL is high quality cricket but Intnl cricket is different. You can have bad team in IPL because of mony or bad auction all together. But bad team at intnl level is all due to bad planning. Ind had only 1 batter in top5 in form before the series. Ind does not have any reliable fast bowler before the start of series. Reddy ,rana debut on the toughest series in world cricket. Pradish plays just after recovering from an injury and he is not that exp that he can come back after injury and perform, he may himself not know what his top game is. They were unclear with rohit's availability for 1st 2 games. not sure how real was that but they were thinking if shami can fly in between the series. A top player goes and retires mid series, how was his future not decided before the series. If they didnt need him tell him before the series that you will not be needed and can retire now. rohit sits out of the last game looking like he will retire and then comes in an interview and says he is not retiring. ...... Ind didnt develop any fast bowler who can play test against top sides or even odi/t20i against top sides. Kept investing in Avesh, mukesh, etc and who do they have to pick a newbie and some1 who has not played cricket for a long time and returning frm an injury. returning captain loses his spot to a player who they were nt sure if there is a place for him in the team. captain is replaced by another who is more flawed in his technique than the batter he is replacing. Ind has invested in player like Kishan, Gill, Avesh, mukesh, jitesh, kl,etc...any1 thinks they are top draw player or doubt some of these are even intnl quality.
