I don't think its complicated at all. Both India & Pakistan don't want a full scale war. Pakistan because they know a full scale war would lead to their loss, & India doesn't want to get involved into the quagmire like ukraine war or Israel's gaza war.

 

But india can't afford to not react after previous precedent, it also needed to make it public unlike last time whre Pak was able to say nothing got hit. It also needed to own the escalation ladder as the last instance ended with a pak retaliation & we stopped.

 

Pakistan needed to show they retaliated, hence their operation baniyan and chaadi,  the fact they failed was irrelevant. They just wanted to show they retaliated just like swift retort, Abhinandhan was a bonus for them. They probably hoped for something similar like taking out s-400, but it was not to be. 

 

Pak may have done nucllear sabre rattling, but I think one way or another as soon as they launched their retaliation, if India didn't feel the need to escalate further this was always going to come to an end. It doesn't require any conspiracy theories.
