Are we under-estimating England in Tests (for Nov/Dec) ?

If they pick the same team, anything less than at least 3-0 will be a huge disappointment. I want revenge. I want a 5-0 shellacking. I wanna beat them so bad Cook gets sacked as captain. Embarrass them. Get revenge for all those atrocities under British rule.

Ashwin shall have 40 English wickets for breakfast this series.

5-0 would be a great result to have, but first focus is to win the series. More than the bowlers, my concern is with the batting. Most of our batsmen are not much adept at playing spin either. Even Moeen was turning out to be threatening in England. We should play 3 spinners - Ashwin, Jadeja and Mishra. Bhuv and Shami to provide the pace. Rohit should sit out.

5-0 talk is premature. Need to take each test as it comes.

Hope pitches are not raging turners as our own batsmen could then get skittled by ordinary spin.

Good sporting spinning wickets as per the NZ series should enable us to complete a comprehensive win.

India should be favourites, but the team is still a work in progress. To be honest I'm a bit wary of Moeen bhai after what happened in the last couple of tests in the 2014 series in England.

There isn't much between teams nowadays. The Bang-Eng series was closely fought - though both sides had moments of ascendancy - and it fittingly ended 1-1.

Some intriguing series coming up - this one, and Australia's two home series v Saf and Pak.

you dont need 5 bowlers on turners.

We played 4 bowlers when they last visited us and the result wasn't great. 4 of the 5 bowlers can bat, so why not?

we lost not because of 4 bowlers but because we didnt score runs.

England scored 423 and 513 in their first innings of 2nd and 3rd Test and got 300+ in each innings of the last Test. We lost because of both batti g and bowling.

yes, our spinners really bowled badly in that series, so, you would want them to bowl better this time. If they bowl same they did last time, adding Mishra who has been very average as a test bowler, is not going to solve your problem.

One can turn it around and apply the same logic to the batsmen ..

Look up Mishra's recent Test record. It has been anything but average. I am open to having even Kuldeep in place of Mishra if England play lots of lefties.

my point is Mishra is not your leader of the attack. If our main spinners in Ashwin and Jaddu dont do well, it is highly unlikely, he will. In bowling friendly conditions, you need an extra batsman, not an extra bowler.

yes, one can but if he is in the caliber of Steyn, McGrath, Warne, Kumble, not a Mishra.

If he is Steyn, McGrath, Warne or Kumble, why would he be a 5th bowler? Lol! 5th bowler can often get you the crucial breakthrough that you need when your top 4 bowlers have run out of ideas. And when you have bowlers who can bat, then that is a distinct advantage over having an extra batsman. How is the line up I provided weak in batting when 4 out of 5 bowlers can bat.

Jadeja was elected as a 5th bowler in Aus 2013 series alongside Ashwin and Ojha.Ended up playing a crucial rule.Mishra can also give us crucial breakthroughs

What I don't see is 6th batsmen contributing heavily on tough pitches, specially when its Rohit

On raging turners 2 spinners can run through batting line ups especially when you also have 2 front line seamers who can bowl reverse swing....what can go wrong is that the pitch can take the gulf of quality in spin bowlers of both sides out of the equation and make the opposition spinners, even the mediocre ones look threatening.

on such pitches it is a must to have 6 batsmen to put as much score as possible and then let the spinners run wild.

I am still not sure we will do well against Moeen Ali.The only ones I am confident against him are Vijay and Pujara .So we need the batting depth of 6 batters .

Ashwin and Jadeja are too good for England batsmen .Only way we might let England is if we bat poorly

I don't think England even scored 300 once in the series against Bangladesh .So if we put 400+ totals consistently England will crumble .

So for now we are better off going with six batsmen and 4 bowlers (2 + 2 ) rather than the adventurous 5 bowler .

P.S.

We also have DRS finally which is like having a 5th bowler honestly.

Only way English winning again if you guys make rank turners against them which will take quality of their current spinners out of equation who are not as good as Swan and Monty. Your batsmen also need to show respect to Moeen and do not lose their heads against him like they did in English tour. Leave the good balls and hit bad one out of the park as we did against him in England this summer.

This. Swan and Monty combo was better than our spinners. Swann was best spinner in the world during his time
