Officials said the searches were launched on the premises of two engineers, working with the state government, and some "connected persons".

Most of these guys are being caught. It is easier to track such big movement of money.

The BJP leader was being tracked since the time the money was given and was arrested red handed with the money.

So many bank managers have been caught . Can't blame the govt if people are Besharam.

Note badal sakate ho. Niyat nahi. But if in this round, if most/all havala operators are caught, that will be good enough basis for future work

BTW every time someone is caught with new notes, I cant help but notice that The strap on the confiscated bundle is from "AXIS" Bank. Looks like AXIS Bank officials there are fully involved in this racket. AXIS Bank will have a lot of explaining to do.

Black money seems to be back in the system. parents trying to sell a flat in Delhi, but buyers all want to pay at least 50% in cash, and happy to pay in 2000 rupee notes. Seems like many people who were hoarding black money in cash were able to get it converted  to 2000, 100 and new 500 rupee notes, and are now quicky trying to purchase non cash assets.

Petty financial crime ? Do you realize that in every single western country, tax fraud lands u in jail or a massive fine ? Did u know that the most famous crime boss of all time, Al Capone , was taken down by the IRS and not the police/DEA in USA ?

Please talk about India. The country in which people that were seen actively leading mobs in 1984 riots became ministers.despite congress loosing  ground both Sajjan Kumar and Tytler are still out and free.Thinking in such country people that will deposit few thousands of black money will be in jail is hilarious

So your idea is, if there is one type of crime, why not have all types of crime ?

Crime is crime. Whenever it is detected it should be punished. The whole 'you didn't punish him foto breaking the law why r u punishing me for the same thing ' is not a valid argument.

This is just a theory .In reality if people see illegal things , crime is paying them then they do the same.Poor people gets regularly beaten , asked for bribe illegally. similarly they also encroach area's to have their stall  and build their house on public land illegally .So in their life they see many illegal things done to them and they themselves end up doing so many illegal things.

I have heard of Bank officials who will convert your black money into new currency with commission ranging from 10 to 40%

I don't know how they are actually carrying out with all the RBI monitoring system , there definitely are some loopholes are being found by these people.H hopefully they are caught .

But these are minor issues though .There are still a large section of people who are struggling to convert their black money or voluntarily deposited in banks. The savings bank deposits in most banks have gone through the roof in almost all banks .

There will be exceptions but can't define the success of this demonetization based on exceptions rather than norms .

For example in my bank , lot of companies struggled to pay their workers salaries because of cash withdrawal restrictions .But after initial struggles they have decided to open bank accounts for their workers to credit salaries and now this will have long term benefit as well.I am sure most people are finding similar solutions as well.No one going to close his shop or lay of workers because he can't pay in cash ,salaries, for a month .

The only major blunder govt did was not having printing enough cash reserves of 100s and new 500s to meet the sufficient demand

A big blow to all those who were expecting that large number of black money will never come into banks

This figure of 11 crore is incorrect. Yesterday, TOI reported it 9.9 crore.

week 1=5.4 lakh crore

week 2 = 3+ lakh crore

week 3 comes out as  1.5 lakh

From the "esteemed" Economist editorial:

Quote

INDIA is not the first country to introduce abrupt, drastic reform of its currency. But the precedents—including Burma in 1987, the former Soviet Union in 1991 and North Korea in 2009—are not encouraging. Burma erupted in revolt, the Soviet Union disintegrated and North Koreans went hungry. All the more reason for Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, to prepare the ground before the surprise announcement on November 8th that he would withdraw the two highest-denomination banknotes (the 500-rupee and 1,000-rupee, worth about $7.30 and $14.60). Yet he did not and the result is a bungle that, even if it does achieve its stated aims, will cause unnecessary harm.

This magazine's silly editorial keeps getting things wrong one after another; Support for Iraq War, backing a retard (Rahul Gandhi) to become Indian PM in 2014, Brexit unlikely to happen, Predicting landslide for Hillary,

Those guys, and officials who are converting black into white by taking percentage, they are going to be so done, was talking to a bank official, he said a very simple thing, RBI has record of every penny it is sending to the bank, and bank has record of every penny it is sending to its branches , also they have attested Id proof with each account, and they have details of backdate deposits as well,if one is trying to deposit a huge some into his own account via setting through a bank official, will be fked up since he has to get that amount in his account with details or else the bank manager will get fked up, when their is dodgyness in distribution of money, more over heard ex income tax employees have been hired for raiding the hoarders and they will work with current employees.

Just last week news was that about 27 senior officers from Government banks were suspended with pending enquiry. Any cash haul from anywhere takes it all back to everyone involved as Serial Number of Notes are still linked directly to Bank Managers.

Government can simply ask to do some data mining from various bank IT systems. It is friggin massive work to go after each one but government, bank, taxmen do have evidence.
