maniac Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Thread title is self explanatory......I mean playing at home.....not exactly a dust bowl.... A neutral pitch favorable to batting... But still home conditions. despite that our batting is playing for survival. I have nothing against this approach ... Rather draw a match than lose at home but still long gone from the days of likes of sehwag or sachin who can make things happen and tilt the favor of the game despite the opposition almost making a score that will in all probability won't lose them the game....where are the game changers? india is already playing for survival here and nothing wrong with that approach but still there is something missing. a part of us like the optimistic fans we are want a player to suddenly make something happen and no one in the Indian line up bar Ashwin with the ball once conditions start favoring him, seems capable of that. we have some terrific players but just not enough match winners in the side who can make miracles happen.....sachin, kumble, sehwag etc etc ... Our test team is too plain Jane... If this was a odI game I could have made a case for kohli who is a once in a lifetime player in those formats but tests unfortunately it is s difficult story. tweaker and Detonator 2
WeStMiDz Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) Oh so you expect a team to come out blasting the ball all round the park when they are up against a 500+ total in the first innings. They are doing absolutely fine. Catch up can be played later once the foundations are set. Edited November 11, 2016 by WeStMiDz sandeep and tweaker 2
maniac Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Let me further explain....look at England for example....they can be 150/5 but all of a sudden Ali,Stokes,Baristow and Woakes can counter attack and get them to a 400/7 kind of a scenario. similarly with the ball Stokes who is the 5th and at times 6th bowler can get into Rythm and start reversing the ball at 140ks.... On a dust bowl....Ali can be as threatening as Jadeja with a tight line and spinning the odd one. Duckett looks to attack from ball 1.... Yes he is young and has not had much to show but just look at his body language and intent. we have too many 1 dimensional players no matter how good they are and get the job done. tweaker 1
Cricketics Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Wonder what game you watching. Playing for survival? We are scoring at a brisk rate. Only 27 overs bowled in the first session and yet we scored over 100 runs. You seem to be such a Rohit fanatic that you do not like watching India play when he is not playing. It is totally fine to do that. Nothing wrong but then I can't call you a true Indian die hard cricket fan. I am sorry. tweaker, Forever Indian, sscomp32 and 3 others 6

For the benefit of those whose missed the point completely here you go again, obviously if understanding the English language is not your forte than don't bother. 1. Absolutely brilliant knocks by Vijay and Pujara. Perfect knocks according to the situation. Can't ask for more of them and have almost put...focus on the word almost here....put India in the safe zone. 2: Our R/R is 2.97 right now which is not exactly brisk. but Given the situation we were in and considering the opposition, this is brilliant performance.:.As I said can't ask for more from the top order 3. Have I once mentioned Rohit Sharma in my OP...the very fact I put a disclaimer there is because I was sure of the premature leakage that people would have considering the topic. 4. All I am saying is we are more than capable to draw this game and may be even cause England a few problems but we just don't have any player apart from Kohli to some extent to use this platform provided and just take the game out of England's reach. Something a Sehwag would do or a Gilchrist. Kohli has not shown the ability in test cricket yet...yes he might play an innings to put India totally in the safe zone which will still be amazing but I am asking for players who would take this platform and absolutely do miracles with it. Yes players like that have existed in the past, exist now....all I am saying is despite the Indian test team being very talented and component, they don't seem to have that players with X factor who can just swing the game in a session( and again nothing to do with Rohit, would it help if I admited Rohit has never shown that ability yet either in test cricket) now hope Iam clear
sandeep Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 ^ If Kohli and Jinxy take us to 500, there is absolutely no reason why Jadeja and Saha wouldn't be able to slap around the pommies for a quickfire 60-80 runs. Especially on Sir's home ground.

Ankit_sharma03 Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) I get ur point and i agree with u , but for that idea to come good few players have to be ready. Kohli is somewhat who also beilves in match winners. There are few potential players who can feature in this lineup soon but may not be ready as of yet In future- This lineup could be a real deal Kl rahul- quite destructive Vijay- Perfect foil for rahul and has more than just being a suppourt unlike akash chopra Pujara- No matter how many runs he scores at home question over his overseas game will reamain, hope he comes good Kohli- always keeps the scoreboard tickin Rahane- our best test batsman as of now Pandya- Can tonk the ball, bowl at 140k and will keep maturing with time Saha or soon Samson/ Pant- Hope Pant and samson mature soon with both bat n gloves and then we are talking of serious threatening lineup Ashwin- What a player to have in lower order, makes the batting look deep Shami Bhuvi/Ishant/Umesh/Aaron/ Nathu/Aniket/Shardul/Kuldeep - Any two among them Depending on conditions This could be a terrific team Its not only about x-factor but consistency, depth and most importantly balance of the team. Vilander Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Hey maniac what is x factor ? may be i will put something across, if Rohit was there he could have pummeled the poms and got us to 500 runs in first day of Indian innings. with his strike rate (alledged because of his talent) and changed the complexion of the game ? in one session. tweaker 1

express bowling Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) In our current test team, Rahul, Kohli and Rahane play quickly and dominate the opposition bowlers when the match situation demands it. Vijay and Pujara are our sheet-anchors. Now, if we can get a new-age batsman or batting all-rounder or batsman-keeper at No.6, who can really dominate the bowlers....we will have a much more balanced test batting line-up. And impact doesn't mean you have to go wam bamn every ball, it's about how you approach a game. I don't mind our bowling in this match really, but it's the terrible, let me rephrase, utter effing terrible approach from our batsmen. They settled for a draw from the word go. Surprisingly, I only found Pujara to show some intent. The combination of 5 bowlers is not the issue here. Ankit_sharma03, maniac, Laaloo and 1 other 4

maniac Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 Hope this thread makes sense now. yeah we beat the mighty wi but we will still lose overseas 9/10 times....only difference is we might draw a few games and avoid total humiliation or even spring an odd surprise win because we don't have brain dead and stubborn leadership anymore. the team is still too one dimensional and boring and that is a fact....it is almost as boring as pak and srilanka team these days....we are still a notch better but getting there soon.

What are you on about? How is this team boring? Who do you want out of side from this squad? I know Gambhir is temporary but why are you calling this side boring? We have one of the best spinners in the world, got Shami, who is really good. We also have Bhuvi who is not playing but definitely a better bowler than most who have played for us in last 15 years. We also have the best top middle order in the world with the trio of Pujara-Kohli-Rahane. Yes, they are the best you can ask for right now. Better than any team's middle order any day and on any pitch. I will take these three over anyone. Now how is this team so boring? All of a sudden your Rohit isnout of the team for one test and this side has become boring? Laaloo, tweaker and UnknownGenius 3
