BCCI confirmed the news through a media release, saying: "Ajinkya Rahane sustained an avulsion fracture on his right index finger and has been ruled out for the remaining two Test matches of the Paytm series 2016 against England. A ball stuck Rahane during the practice session today."

He would have loved to play at home though. Ideal location to get back among runs. He knows that wicket better than anyone currently. I think he will be gutted of missing out playing at home.

I was worried that with such a settled batting unit how wud we find backup batsman. Specially what if Pujara and rohit fails in overseas again. 

Nair, Pandey have gotten the opp to become the backup batsman

dhawan bad form = injury

rahul bad outing = injury

rahane bad form = injury

 

are players being declared injured to spare them the shame of being dropped and to make them play some first class cricket since acc to the new rule players cannot come back straight into the team after injury but have to play some first class games...

Rahane was practicing while others were enjoying Yuvi's wedding. I don't think that would've been the case had he known he is going to be declared as injured.

Rahane has broken his finger, avulsion fracture, probably out for 4-6 weeks. Cant see him playing ODI series.

Rahul got injured in Vizag while fielding at short leg. He had a forearm injury. Rahul was not out of form.

I am betting Rahane just chickened out after hearing that the mumbai pitch will be a turner. The management must have also forced him to take time off. 

The funny part is that I am betting the pitch will be very good for batting. Most of the replacements will do wonderful and finish his career. Good.

An overrated mumbai batsman.

If you think Rahane is overrated then I want to know your 10 good players who are better than Rahane. Please do reply soon. And if 10 is too much, give me at least 5 good players who should replace Rahane.

Is this a genuine injury and hence a legitimate explanation for rahanes poor form thus far or a master stroke from kohli and Kumble i.e. send him to spend 3 months in Chennai at sivaramakrishnans house learning how to bat against spin bowling...by the time he returns he will come back as a navjot Sidhu (against spin)

Very few top order batsmen in domestic cricket avg close to 60 and that too with match setting up centuries around the world..Rahane just needs a break and should start doing well
