Pressure gets to him. He is always playing under fear and performs worse. This I saw long time ago. That's why I feel he will flop miserably in SA because lots going in his mind. Add to that ODI pressure and being kicked out of t20, his fragile brain ain't capable of handling the road ahead. Edited November 28, 2017 by WC2011INDIA Frustrated 1
maniac Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 We know your blood boils at the slight mention of Rahane but 3 threads with the same topic Laaloo and velu 2
Vilander Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Man Rahane is famous in icf. He has better away average than Sachin Tendulkar, and He is below Amarnath only for India in away averages after 1980 against the 8 teams ( excluding bang and zim away ) . And amarnath is the best in the world with 1000 runs plus away average against top teams since 1980. This guy scores where it matters. I dislike him because he is backed by ghati lobby and is a misfit in odi. But he is talismanic for India away along with M vijay. One protects Kohli one picks up the pieces if all else and kohli fails. Rahane must succeed and needs to be backed. Gollum, Rasgulla and Cricketics 3

Hmm looks like we need make a open a new thread soon. He had better stats away in Tests that's for sure and prob better SR in depth research on tough pitches
Silva Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 IMO he just needs pitches with more pace in them to score because he isn't particularly strong and he doesn't take big hacks at the ball, plus he is a more fluid player in that doesn't play the long grinding innings like vijay and Pujara. Thats probably why he has been very average at home and in the subcontinent. LORD_analyst 1

Vilander Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 but yeah we have to compare him with VVS. not sachin or Dravid. Kohli - Sachin Puj - Dravid rahane - vvs right ? roles and time in which they come in to play matter.

Without even looking I have faith in him. He won't disappoint me with away stats. Don't know why he is compared with legends like Virat when he can't even win against players like Rahane Myth needs to be busted Today.
Gollum Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 His clownery against spin irritates me no end, his career in India has been mediocre but can't forget our last cycle of overseas tours. He got 100s in Aus, Eng, NZ and 96 in SA, played some crucial knocks as well. Let us hope he does something similar this time around also. His selection in ODIs and T20s is another topic altogether, guy is useless in the shorter formats, I can name 10 better Indian ODI batsmen from the early 90s than this plodder. vvvslaxman Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 My problem is not his form. He can regain it. My problem is his utter cluelessness against spin bowling at times. Sometimes he reminds me of Robin Smith, James Foster (English keeper) against Kumble during 1993 England's tour to India. He couldn't pick the ball from the hand. He is so unlike other Indian batsmen. I would still back him as his other qualities outweigh this negative aspect. Other batsmen can make up for him under such conditions. But my worry is whether this indecisiveness against spin will continue abroad. Even better batsmen got succumbed to Moeen Ali. Now SA has Keshav Maharaja. NZ has Ish Sodhi. Australia has Lyon. I don't think there are many good spinners around. Rahane has probably faced better spinners in domestics on helpful conditions and survived. Honestly Rahane is a bit different. He gets bogged down by his weaknesses. It's only a matter of time before he finds his way to live with his weaknesses. Overall he is not a mental midget in a typical sense. His crucial innings when team needs him the most proves it. Even in Australia he test series where he looked completely out of place he managed to play a most crucial innings of 2nd test with Pujara to put India back on track. Remember we had lost first match and were in trouble of losing another but this partnership saved and turned around things.

Remember we had lost first match and were in trouble of losing another but this partnership saved and turned around things. He is one of the best against short ball i have seen from India. He always get on top of the ball atleast most of the time. He also handles pace well. Probably swing i would give 6 out of 10. That is the kind of bowlers he will face most of the time overseas except may be in England where he will whole lot of Moeen and Root. To be fair entire Indian batting line up is somewhat inferior against spin compared to the 90s, 2000s era. May be DRS has made everyone look like a fool as they are forced to play every ball unlike the previous eras where you can pad the balls away. KL Rahul looks assured against spin. If anything he is over-confident. He is too good a batsman to fail consistently against certain type of bowling HE could take a leaf out of Dravid who was somewhat weaker against spin compared to his mates Laxman, Sachin, Ganguly, Sehwag. But he had this "back and across" game helped him overcome his weakness. He would give a half committed forward press and rock back if needed. Rahane on the other hand is fully committed on the frontfoot and no going back from there.
NameGoesHere Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 What kind of an article would begin by claiming, in the absence of direct quotes, insight into Rahane's mind, close observation of his facial reactions presumably as he's recuperating in the privacy of his home and, incidentally the internal workings of his stomach? Quote As a triple ton was launched, an injured player seated far away from the by-lanes of the Chepauk looked on in melancholic delight. Of course, he was glad that his countryman had reaped the benefits of his hard work and scripted history but his wry smile hinted at an underlying pathos, hidden cleverly between his applauds. Karun Nair’s scintillating knock of an unbeaten 303 was cheered lustily by both cricket fanatics in India and abroad but it would not be a hyperbole to suggest that Ajinkya Rahane felt threatened. No, not in an envious way. Neither was it vengeful. Nope, not hatred either. It was just an inexplicable uneasiness. A strange fluttering in the stomach; knowing that the contemporary had grabbed onto that one chance that had been given to him
wanted_desi Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Watch him with the best average in South Africa, he was never good in Indian conditions. On other hand, he should never be selected for ODIs and T20s. LORD_analyst 1
gakgupta Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Keep him away from one day and T20 and he will be back to his run making form... Who can forget that match in Lords...Pure class Vk1 1

cricketpitch Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 So you guys want to drop Rahane as well and play some rookie in SA? We are already going to play Rohit who will be a walking wicket in SA. Rahane is a brilliant player outside Asia. He has the technique and shots to score runs everywhere. You just don't drop players because they are going through a bad patch.
