if the pitch was unsafe today and players went off ,then how is it magically going to be safe tomorrow?  the original decision to go off today would seem even more bizzare

Because the ICC is behaving in reactionary manner like a little bitch.  As soon as a batsman took a helmet blow, they didn't want to get blamed for serious injuries on a bad wicket, so they called off play.  Initially, SA was quite happy to hide behind "player safety" to avoid the loss.   But now CSA probably realized the massive repercussions of abandoning the match in terms of venue bans etc, and the SA players realized what a catch-22 they are in - pussying out on the track they asked to be doctored, so probably went back and told the ICC that they are willing to resume.

You probably didn't follow the events as closely.  But the South Africans came out in the press conference and talked up a big storm about emphasizing player safety, and only resuming play if ICC gave them assurances about "safe conditions".  And lied about the ball that hit Elgar on the head - it was a vanilla short ball, not a ball that "jumped up from good length".    And btw, Elgar was standing outside his crease - and regardless could easily have just swayed or ducked a regulation bouncer.  He was probably not thinking clearly after being pinged on the gloves though.

Assign Dhawan, Rohit, Umesh and Bevda to guard the pitch tonight lest these sneaky Saffers do something fishy that makes Wanderers go the SSC route tomorrow. Make a campfire near the pitch and don't get high lest you pass out and the enemy sneaks around you, do it for the country FFS.

if the team captains both decided to play then they would not leave the field. SAF said they will wait for the ICC officials to decide on safety, it was a safe way to say they want the benefit of not playing but would not want to say they chickened.

i dont think Kohli would have agreed for that, they just wanted to escape the end of day play in this pitch and want a heavy roller in the morning, but the thing is its long past it, they wont score more than 100.

i saw heavy roller used before the start of african innings..indian always referred the light roller but africans always prefer the heavy roller.

 

heavy roller suppresses the grass but creates bounce where as light roller does not create deviations as grass is not suppressed much
