One of the top 3 have to move in middle order to make way for Rahul

The middle order conundrum has reached its peak. Every other option we are trying does not seem to be the answer.

KL Rahul was the highest scorer in the last game he played as an opener and was dropped after that.

So there is one player who has the potential to be a good player for you but by management or himself he is typecasted as a top order player.

So to accommodate him

1 Virat moves to number 4 , KLR comes in at 3 -> Best solution

2. Rohit moves to number 4-5, KLR comes in as opener -> Risky but worth trying since Rohit has bee playing in the middle order for MI.

One of the Rohit or Virat have sacrifice for the team's cause.

That's fine but kurbani dega kaun. Do you think Kohli-Rohit could end up like this? :phehe:

On a serious note, only Kohli can do it. Dhawan has batted in the top 3 all his life and Rohit is hopeless in the middle order. For Kohli the "adjustment" is easier from 3 to 4 but I don't think that's gonna happen. A compromise solution would be to have a flexible 3 and 4 where Rahul goes in at 3 if an early wicket falls and Kohli comes in at 3 if the openers have already got us a good start. This would ensure that the best batsman still gets to bat long enough.

SRT Ganguly were the best opening pair in the world still they dropped to 3rd or 4th position to get Sehwag in XI.

Why can't these guys do the same.

Rohit will get back his old self in middle order. He hardly rotates stroke, and is dependent on shots, and thats hard to do after power play.

Not these days. 11-40 overs are not the same. Balls are not old enough. Only 4 fielders outside.

Is Rahul reluctant to play in the middle or the management has decided he will only play as opener replacement?

Rahul doesn't have the option . He should play where ever he is asked to.

If he is ready to play where ever and still not getting chances....then probably the TM does not want him to play .

He needs to be played first.

He was backed sufficiently in Tests. In fact is among the select players to play 20 or more tests in the last two yrs. Has played two full series vs Eng and WI but with nothing much to show except that inning of 149

There is not enough evidence to suggest his form could be different in other formats

However, he can be tried till at #4 till the NZ ODI series esp if he does well in tests in Aus to show that his form can be leveraged upon :dontknow:

Top 3 is fine ,it's Raul who needs to be told and given confidence that he'll be our permanent #4 .I said this about 6 months back but still they haven't tried this ,Raul's reluctance won't help him nor us .

With the talent he possesses he can fit at #4 for the time being till the wc

Idk why should top 3 give their spot to unproven player? Yes rahul is very good player but if he can't play at #4 then top 3 should not give spot to him. This indian team has only one good thing & that's top 3 if you change that then there will be only cons left no pros.
