Pandya with our tailenders

I have a concern about how Pandya will be running out of partners once we lose our 6th wicket.  Imagine Pandya batting with Bumrah/Kuldeep/Chahal/Shami. Is there a case for pushing Jadhav to 7 instead of Pandya? I wouldn't even mind him having at 5 if he comes in after 40th over. His absolutely destructive power will be wasted with our tailender if he comes in late.

Jadhav, Dhoni doesn't give much confidence. Shankar too is inexperienced else i would have actually sent pandya at #4 or #5 in any situation unless big collapse.

Good point, should utilisise Pandya before 35th over, and form and ability wise rather have DK instead of Jadhav or Rahul, even though this weakens bowling

Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Pandya, Dhoni, DK, Shankar/Jadeja, Kuldeep, Chahal/Bhuvi, Shami, Jasprit

Key decision will be who to play between Rahul, Jadeja/Shankar and Jadhav

Rahul will only be effective as opener

Top 7 have to do the job in whichever order they bat.

Kuldeep/Shami/Chahal/Bumrah who are our 4 best bowlers are absolute mugs with the bat.

Dhoni, Jadhav, Pandya ... they have to be flexible from #5 to #7 based on game situation and batting first/last.

Ideally if we had deep batting, Pandya could have been a floater batting primarily between overs 25-40 where there is high chance of spinners bowling. Also those overs fall in 2nd power play where only 4 fielders are allowed outside inner circle.

We have to do the best that we can do with managing the resources. Meanwhile the last 4 better start getting some batting practice.  This  is getting ridiculous when teams like England has Moeen Ali at 8, rashid at 9 woakes at 10.

Absolutely. I do think Hardik is good enough to be at 5 .

If MSD is at 4, Hardik at 5, KJ/VS at 6 and DK at 7... could work.

Dinesh better suited to no 7 than Jadhav and the idea of Dinesh and hardik batting together at the death is a nice one..OTOH having all 3 of Hardik Kedar and Shankar gives us bowling flexbility

Post world cup probable:

Rohit, Rahul, Virat, Shankar, Hardik, Pant, Krunal, Bhuvi, Kuldeep, Yuzi, Jasprit

Dhawan/Rohit/Kohil will form top 3. Won't change unless someone gets injured. Dhoni at 4 is not sure will work out. He will waste so many balls in that position. You would want someone who rotate strike. I am thinking KL Rahul is not such a bad choice. Dhoni at 5 or 6 depending on when the wicket falls.

Pandya should have been given regular chances at batting at #5, around the 30th over or so.  Have been pointing this out for over a year now. Come the WC, what happens if we are chasing 375, and Plan A fails  (i.e top 3 batsmen get "set" and go big).  If we want to consider promoting Pandya earlier in a crunch game, we should have given him bunch of chances to work out his batting method by doing just that, in bilateral series.

But nope.  That would require a bit of planning, common sense, and putting team objectives ahead of "career management".

"Career management" is the correct diagnosis for our perils. Our WC chances have been compromised at the altar of selfishness of our top 3. All their meaningless stats boosting is unlikely to help us win something that justifies our production talent and resources. So much batting depth/talent we have, such amazing strokeplayers/bashers waiting in the wings but we are unable to maximize our potential...this is more infuriating than having a poor batting unit, like we had in the 90s. Can't fathom how people are being taken for a ride by our top 3 and the passive TM.

Jadhav and VJS are both looking in horrendous form and they are starters in the XI which is a bigger cause of concern than the feeble tail. In wake up of his recent bowling failures, Jadhav to me look easily dispensable in the team. Also, yesterday's innings just buttresses the fact Ind needed someone like Pant in the middle along with Pandya to give some beef to the batting order, even if on paper.

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Blank

Blank

Blank

Pandya

This is what the Rat has managed to do with this Ind team in last one year. Another big worry is the batting number of Dhoni ? will he be batting at no.4, 5 or 6? Virat's ambiguous comment about no.4 batsman recently has opened the debate whether VJS is actually a no.4 or is that just another imagination of our dumb chief selector.  Such kind of inept though process seldom leads to success.

In a nutshell, Pandya batting with tailenders is smaller concern compared to some behemoth issues at hand

On topic, I think Ind gonna start the campaign with Bhuvi and Bumrah, changes will made if thereafter. So I think it will be Bhuvi-Bumrah- Pandya and two wristys to start the WC.

That's why we have thala. To take it to the last over. While Pandya gets the fame, Dhoni will be handing over the cup to the young temmates and take backstage. That's Mr.Cool

I don't think they should play 2 wristy, one spinner is good enough they should boost up their batting on those flat pitches jadhav/pandya should cover for 5 th bowling option bhuvi should take spinner place it will lengthen our batting till 8 that's the best we can achieve with this team. In case we want to drop jadhav we can pick pure bat like Rahul or accomodate Pant in place of jadhav. Pant,Pandya and karthik can boost the lower batting order along with bhuiv. So ideally this should be the batting order

Rohit

Dhawan

Kohli

Rahul/Pant/Dhoni(  Dhoni ,In case 2 wkt fails within 20 overs , having said that not sure if he would be able to rotate strike or not)

Pant/Jadhav

Pandya

Karthik/Dhoni

Bhuvi

Shami

Kuli/Chahal

Bumrah.

two wristys is the way to go I think. Ind should not rely on Jadhav for any kind of bowling quota I think, 2--3 overs at max, teams can get hold of him.

I think like england we have take risk to bowl 10 overs by  allrounder otherwise we will screwed up in tight chase, especially those beyond 300 as 2 wristy and 2 fast bowler won't able to score even if 50 is requreed

in two spin-two pace combo, if Bhuvi plays ahead of Shami (which I think he will) , you will get batting till Bhuvi on paper :dontknow:. Anyways 10 overs of Indian innings are going to be bowled by supposed 3D players

Which is something in my opinion is defensive approach. Shami and Bumrah are best bait in terms of wkt taking option. Bhuvi should play but only as a 3rd fast bowler. I think other than eng and aus the bowling attack of shami, bumrah, bhuvi, pandya and kuli/chahl can take care of all batting lineup and it will also give an option to play an extra batsman or 3d player :cheer5:
