I think at the time it was a very reasonable tweet. BCCI messed up Rohit's development by exposing him only to bakwaas t20 at the expense of him developing basic cricketing fundamentals. By the time he was drafted into the team, the bad habits were already entrenched and too hard to reverse. Ian Chappell said about Rohit circa 2008, 'there's a timing to drafting people in the team'. He feared for Rohit's future, ultimately he was proven right (as far as tests are concerned). Final straw for his test career came when Raina was selected ahead of him in 2010 to tour SL. We can thank India cements for that little selectoral gem.

It is not the part about Rohit that is objectionable.

 

It is the part about Kohli ...   " I will give Virat one more test ... just to be sure he does not belong here " is a very very negative attitude to have about ANY promising youngster.

With so many "best of the decade" type threads springing up all over ICF, I thought that I'd bring to your notice that the decade isn't over. There was no year 0 AD. We started from 1 AD. Hence this decade would end on 31st Dec of 2020.

Decades always start at 19X0 , 20Y0 etc. ... and end at 19X9, 20Y9 etc.  

 

The first " decade " of the A.D era perhaps was not a decade but had 9 years. And it is possible as this concept was perhaps introduced with retrospective effect.

as Virat's biggest fan and supporter, I'd even argue that he was initially given undue preference above his ability during the initial phase of his career. Eventually it paid off but the question is, had we given Virat time to go back to Ranji/county (rather than persisting with him in the international setup) would he not have blossomed into the player he eventually became? And in the process would we have developed another international calibre player to join him? Rahane and Rohit were waiting in the wings at the time. Remember, Kohli's road to international superstardom was not smooth, he was exposed royally in England 2014- maybe an early country stint before he was in the international spotlight would have prevented this. Kohli in his initial test career looked horrible and Rohit/Rahane were more promising prospects at that point (with the information/perspective we had at the time). Let's judge that tweet by what we knew then, no by what we know now.

You give any player another chance in the hope that  "  he belongs here " and not the other way round.

No one is debating that statement even today (not even Virat himself) when we define talent to be just natural abilities that one is born with and does not include the personality associated with maximizing it (i.e. utilizing it to the maximum with qualities such as hard work, fitness and patience). 

As @express bowling so nicely clarified it in his two posts in this thread, nobody is faulting Manju about what he said about Rohit there or what his opinion is, but saying we will give one more chance to a youngster to just make sure he does not belong is a very very bad thing to say!

Many things in life happen due to convenience and custom. 

 

As far as decades go, it is much easier to call 1980 to 1989 as the  1980s decade.  If we considered 1981 to 1990 as a decade then it would have been less convenient. 

 

So, decades are called as the '20s, ' 30s etc.

Actually no, this wasn't the case till 1999

 Go back and check any newspaper, book, google search etc. Till 1999 a decade starter with 1. So 80s was 1981 to 1990. 

 

It was not convenience  at all as both take same effort. Again I encourage you to google or read old magazine or papers 

 

Some retard started celebration of new millennium from 2000. That's when the decade also changed
