Is Hardik Pandya’s presence necessary for Kul-Cha to play?

Does Pandya really need to be in the team for our spin twins to play together? Hardik himself rarely every completes his 10 overs quota and most likely will bowl even less now after having back surgery!

I know Jadeja has done nothing wrong in the opportunities he’s got but his bowling is far inferior than Kuldeep’s. We are missing our wicket taking spin twins in the middle overs very badly.

Is there any other way to get Kuldeep and Chahal to play together? Kuldeep and Chahal need to get reunited again ASAP!

Its about balance - Pandya provides the option of up to 10 overs of pace bowling, without weakening the batting.  His absence translates into the need to play 3 'bowler only' pacers, which means that one of the 2 spinners have to 'bat'.  Jadeja is a terrible temporary band-aid of a solution.

TO be fair, I will admit that Jadeja has done better than I thought he would, with ball in hand.  But his batting is predictably what it is.  Not good enough.

And btw, a desperate SOS for KulCha isn't what's needed to improve our ODI fortunes.  Today Chahal was effective because for a change, he was bowling without postage stamp boundaries.  He usually is effective when given that level playing field.

The bottomline is for the Indian team to recognize that the ODI game is different today than it was in 2011 and even 2015.  320 is not enough.  A 'good' batting unit should be able to target 360 on decent batting surfaces.  And for that, not only are competent batsmen and depth required, but a non-trivial change in batting tactics and attitude in building the innings.

There's a reason England won the world cup, beating us along the way.  Indian ODI team is the standard bearer of the previous generation of ODI cricket.  The writing has been on the wall for years, but selfish top order batting that provides generous opportunities for individual glory, all the while claiming its "good for the team", is too good of a golden goose to break the addiction.

I don't blame the odd Shardul or even Jadeja - the buck stops with those making the decisions.

Should go for Axar over Jadeja for the spin AR position. His bowling may not have huge upside but his batting is much more suited to the role. Clean striker of the ball and can go big against both spin and pace.

Unless he has improved his batting in domestics whenever I have seen him bat comes across as a typical Pakistani leg side hack.

He has improved a lot in the last year or so. Clean hitting with emphasis on timing rather than power. The best lower order hitter in the A side right now.

yes, he has improved and played some good crisis knocks as well. deserves a go instead of pedestrian jaddu.

kulcha own form is important.....chahal for all the flak he gets has done better in last one year and kuldeep form has dipped .

Chahal picked up 3 wickets each in the last 2 ODI games.

To be honest, jadeja has a s/r of 101 in 49 t20 international and 85 in odis, so it’s not like it’s a huge bar here. Jadeja has been so crap in LOIs.
