sandeep Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Shaw, Mayank and Virat - all 3 only have themselves to blame for their dismissals. They got themselves out. Pujara got a proper jaffa, and Vihari got a good one too, but the other 3? Pyss Poor shot selection, and execution - in Mayank's case. This track is not a demon - If India don't bowl out of their skins, they could easily concede 350+ here. And a 1st dig total of under 200 will mean that the match, and the series, will become immensely difficult to save. The good thing is that our team is strong enough to bounce back from this - if we somehow scrap to a 260+ score, and the bowlers keep the lead below 50, or maybe even better, we may yet compete in this test match. But a game that I was really, really looking forward to, is already in a deep hole already, with barely a 100 runs on the board. Yes, we lost the toss, but the shot selection was rank criminal.
Stan AF Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Worst thing is NZ will gain 60 points for one match win. nevada 1

express bowling Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Kohli missing the practice match ... and then getting out to a loose shot outside off stump. Is it the sign of a captain desperate to win test series overseas !! nitinbwj, nevada, Mosher and 1 other 2 2

SrinjayDutta Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 The nz batting line up is not brimming with confidence either. Extreme negativity so far from indian fans. Just two sessions have been played. Who knows, even our lower order may perform and push the total to 300. We can have a big 3rd innings, making them chase a lot. I refuse to comment untill nz have batted. In good batting conditions in aus, just with tight lines and pressure, aus made them fold. So 122/5, with loose shots in a green top, yes, a disheartening performance, but the match is far from lost. In fact its nz who have to chase. FischerTal 1

Andy Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Virat got out exactly the same way he was trapped in England 2014 tour. Seemed like he worked on that in the last tour.

SrinjayDutta Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Why is everybody is saying things so negatively? Test matches hardly get decided into two sessions. Also its 122/5 not 22 all out.all we can say is ind is on backfoot. Stan AF and AuxiliA 2

Used to easy pickings in white ball cricket, he went for that wide ball. Elementary blunder. Play straight, play close to the body - how hard can it be for the most accomplished player in the team? TM scoffs at junior players for such errors but there's no accountability when the captain goes AWOL. express bowling, Mosher, Cricwala and 1 other 4
Cricwala Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 yes, long way to go in the match, but seeing the way Rahane and Pant were batting, they seem to have tied themselves into knots - not surprising for Pant atleast seeing the kind of headspace he must be in after the last month of warming bench. Ashwin batting has also gone down so we will likely fold < 200 tomorrow. I wouldn't call this pitch an unplayable greentop - it is offering support to seamers, but is slowish-paced. Its like a slow turner in India, so expect atleast 1-2 Kiwi batters to get stuck in. Question mark over Ishant fitness doesn't help our chances of blowing Kiwis away. I expect Kiwis to be 3-4 down for not much, but then a rearguard action after ball gets 40 overs old. Kohli shld have played the practise match, heck he cld have even skipped the meaningless ODI series to prepare for such an important tour. f20143g70 and AuxiliA 2

I think too little cricket has been played to draw so much inference.
SrinjayDutta Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 My only worry is overnight rain is going to keep the pitch spiced up and outfield slow.
Sean Bradley Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Shaw got a peach of a delivery, Mayank played a lose shot, Virat is completely out of sorts this NZ tour. Selectors and TM made a big mistake by keeping the in form Rahul out of the Test squad. Still think that 250 will be a good first innings score in this match. The course of the match will be decided by how our seamers bowl to kiwis in their first innings. If Kiwis manage a lead of 100 150, then it will be difficult to make a come back into the match.

Pitch tends to flatten out here. Can always expect a big 500 plus to push for draw. Last two days are best for batting generally.
nitinbwj Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 I can see India folding out for 170 just like the old days. Cricwala 1
vvvslaxman Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Prithvi shaw got a good one too. Left him late and opened him up. But Kohli and Agarwal injudicious shot selection. Needless at that point.

Conditions were challenging but by no means insurmountable. Wickets were literally given away. And the conditions are expected to settle down into much more batting friendly, as the game goes on.
