Definitely think Rohit would be better as captain..he's a little less hard on his players and a little more aware tactically. Thats what players want. The high level approach,not micro managing.

The intensity and pressure Kohli puts on the players can prove to be a problem in high pressure situations. Its probably why we have faltered in those exact situations.

All under diff captain, a captain nerves affects team which is why same players have diff reaction under diff captains. Kohli as captain is diff as player coz as player u can control urself but as captain u need to worry about xi of whom u cant control much. That is why captaincy is the toughest job.

 

You can't ask people to do anything. They'll do something if and only IF they're convinced that it will help them improve their results. Players followed kohli's approach to fitness because they saw that it WORKED for him. Even if kohli didn't make fitness a criteria for selection, you would have seen players following the trend.

 

The last comment is exactly what i'm saying...kohli's strengths as a batsman don't translate to his captaincy. He is not a natural leader, but an exceptionally strong individual who can handle responsibility. That's why his averages improved as captain but his captaincy is mediocre

For all the records Virat has accumulated in bilaterals, Rohit overtook him as an ODI performer last world cup, when it mattered. It was not a surprise that Virat was man of the series in bilateral in WI immediately after the world cup

Lots of "passion" and bluster but will always choke on the crunch occasions. He just does not have that winning touch and likely will never have it - India & RCB won't be accumulating any major trophies under his captaincy.

India has not been good enough to win any ICC tourney post 2013: 

 

2014 WT20: Yuvi played the spoilsport. Should not have been selected but for Dhoni’s belief that India can not win w/o Yuvi. Lucky to play SA in SF. This was the best chance to win post 2013

2015 WC: Smashed by Aus in SF. Lucky to play and get past BD in QF

2016: Only made it to SF because of BD’s brain fart and Kohli’s knock vs. Aus

2017 CT: Pak was destined to win. Lucky to play BD in the SF

2019 WC: In SF, the flat track bullies got exposed and the luck, including that of meeting BD or SA in KOs, finally ran out. Dhawan got injured. Could have lost to AFG, SA, and so on 

 

Fans can blame the captain, coach or whoever but the team hasn’t been good enough. Could have lost the last Asia Cup and Nidhas too if not for BD, which, + perennial KO under-performers SA, is the only team that India manages to do well against in KOs post 2013

Kohli has failed to build a strong batting line up to support the top 3 because he gave chances to has-beens and never-will-bes like Yuvraj and Rayudu. He's a poor judge of talent. They had a good thing going with Kuldeep and Chahal and he ruined that because he wanted a deeper batting line-up.

No way would he have survived. Too bad he is immovable as a captain. His only competitor Rohit is already 33 and doesn't look capable of lasting until 2023. So it is 3 more years of Kohli and his painful captaincy at a minimum. Shreyas is somewhat of a dark horse candidate of Kohli has a terrible form slump coupled with poor results. So l expect him to be dumped as soon as he has a few poor scores.

Not just Shreyas. Ambati Rayudu who played most matches at #4 was dropped from the squad at the last minute. I wasn't really convinced on Rayudu in the first place but if you groom a player for a spot you have to back him up and give chances.

 

Also this is the kind of analysis that is not done by mainstream cricket analysts in India. Somebody needs to show this to Kohli and the management about the kind of damage that is done to the middle order.

yup it was the biggest joke they gave games to ttfs and didnt take them when it was Wc, had DK n dhoni in lineup and yet when it was pressure they threw someone like pant at 4 who to be fair batted decently but after that has not been shown confidence .
