Hi All, this is my first opening post on this forum.

As we look to setup our team for WT20 next year,  I feel IPL has given us a great chance to look at the talented youngsters coming through and hence we can setup a team which has all bases covered for the WT20 tournament.

Below is the playing XI as it looks now for our T20 team:-

Rohit

Rahul(wkt)

Kohli

Iyer

-------(still vacant IMO)

Pandya

Jadeja

Bhuvi

Saini/Shami

Chahal

Bumrah

Possible contenders:-

Dhawan/Shaw/Agarwal(opener slot)

SKY/Pant/Samson/Pandey (5th no.)

Sundar/Dube/Tewatia (all rounder)

Ashwin/ Bishnoi/Kuldeep (spinners)

Deepak Chahar/Navdeep Saini (pacers)

Let's keep a track of it. Suggestions are welcomed.

As of today

  1. Rahul
  2. Rohit
  3. Backup opener
  4. Kohli
  5. Iyer
  6. Pant
  7. Pandya
  8. Axar/  Krunal ( If Wc is in India then axar , if in Aus then Krunal)
  9. Deepak Chahar
  10. Ashwin
  11. Chahal
  12. Bumrah
  13. Saini
  14. Rahul chahar
  15. Dk
  16. Shami/ BK ( As of now shami, but i never liked him as t20 bowler, bhuvi as t20 bowler is far better but his fitness is a major concern)

Players that needs to be tried - SKY, Prasidh , Natrajan, Varun.C, Tewatia

  • Backup opener- none making a strong case only helps dhawan but thats a disaster
Samson- to inconsistent but excellent fielder
Devdutt- i like him but need 1 more season to be sure
Mayank- again need to see one more season before this season he hasnt been good in IPL ever
    Shaw- poor fielder

At the moment, the key T20 cricketers on performance/potential are:

Batsmen/Batting ARs

  • Agarwal (bats with the right spirit in T20s)
  • Hardik (best lower order power batsman)
  • SKY (360 degrees potential)
  • Pant (power hitting + 360 potential)
  • Samson (talent + ability to play match winning knocks. If he is in, he is in)
  • Tewatia (ability to play under pressure)
  • Paddikal
  • KL (needs to play more aggressively)
  • Iyer (needs to play more aggressively)

Bowlers/Bowling ARs

  • Bumrah
  • Saini
  • Krishna
  • Bhuvi
  • Shami (for wkt taking abilities)
  • Sundar (bowling in PPs)
  • Krunal (can bowl Jayasuriya like yorkers)
  • Chahal (can bowl wkt taking deliveries)
  • R Chahar (useful leg spinner and can be preferred over Chahal if fielding is a criteria)

Other good ones:

  • Shaw but needs to improve his fielding
  • Gill but plays at a lower SR
  • Rana
  • Bishnoi (talented leg spinner)
  • V Chakravarty (mystery variety)
  • Tyagi (bowls with pace and has good yorkers)

Why wud u send rahul at 5, most days he ll get 10 balls thats it. Even sky gets more balls then him...really ?

He is KL not dk who ll work only in lesser number of balls

England makes butler open

RR is making stokes open

U dnt waste ur best players like that to for someone like mayank who finally has a good ipl after many many and no way he is has ability close to rahul.

Had it been for a guy like gilly, warner, gayle it wud make sense but not mayank.

In international cricket he has one of the best S.r in powerplay

Iyer chased a big total in a T20 game Vs NZ. I think he plays a good anchor role and can smash spinners for fun. Very good fielder also and mentally strong player.

No one is a better power hitter than H Pandya at lower middle order and should be a good sixth bowling option.

Jaddu ?? In t20 ??

Even on bench axar krunal sundar are better.

He doesnt know how to bowl in t20 , batting to forget it

Guys like krunal n sundar have started working on a leggie in between in nets, krunal even has a bouncer n low arm angle ball whereas jaddu has 0 variety

The reason for that is

1. I am considering a player at No.7, and so, the hitting ability is very important too

2. Jadeja 2.0, in the last 2 or 3 years, has been hitting well. ( That was not the case earlier ). Even in this IPL, Jadeja has scored 126 runs at a SR of 168 and average of 32.

While Sundar has a batting SR of 118 and Axar a batting SR of 122 this IPL. Neither have scored a total of 60 runs even.

And it is not just a matter of this IPL. Sundar looks like a No.5 type of batsman to me, as of today. High SR batting is not his forte yet. And Axar somehow never scores that many runs and gets out.

Krunal's ability to bat at the international level, is not clear to me yet.

3. As a pure T20 bowler ... my pick would have been Sundar.

Jadeja is usually an economical bowler and so, the hiiting + bowling combo part is looking better to me as of today.

Iyer is being bashed too much for nothing really.  Dude is only guy in team who smashes spin from ball one.  Kohli is generally crap at hitting spin & looks to rotate only..  So we do need him.  SKY at 5 can be good..  He can bash both spin & Pace & innovate too.
