Why has there been no Hindi-Belt region based IPL team till now ?

The most populous part of the country comprising of UP-Bihar-Jharkhand-MP-Chattisgarh but not a single IPL team from the region.

At one time all four Southern States had an IPL team ( including Kerala ) but organizers have never looked into tapping the potential of the massive Hindi Belt population. Even today BCCI is planning for an IPL team based in Gujarat but not one in UP or MP.

There are a couple of decent venues in the region, like Green Park Kanpur for example and Indore where Indian matches are regularly hosted. Cricket is popular in the region and a city based team is expected to enjoy popularity among local fans and bring more diversity to the IPL table.

Ideally , we need more IPL teams in different regions/States rather than two teams allotted to one State like Maharashtra , which had Mumbai and Pune in the past. Lucknow/Kanpur/Indore v/s Mumbai will be more fun than Pune v/s Mumbai.

I do think maybe lucknow/ kanpur deserves a franchise...

But i think the big problem is that there is no mega city in the states you mention.

The franchises barring RR are anchored to big cities. Its also why the Kerala franchise did not work out. No big city. You need a 7 million city achorning you.

Anyway UP deserves a team, hope we have a Cawnpore Cows or Gorakhpur Gaaaays

How many cows does Uttar Pradesh have? Yogi Adityanath govt wants to know - lucknow - Hindustan Times

Come on Yogiji make it happen

UP CM YOGI Adityanath Called VIctim Of Chitrakoot Kidnap And Murder - CM योगी आदित्यनाथ ने चित्रकूट मामले को लिया संज्ञान, फोन पर पीड़ित पिता से बोली ये बात.. MP पुलिस में

bulls or bisons sounds more sports team like than cows. I am not sure bisons are found in India. Also buffaloes we use in a negative connotation in India but them Indian buffaloes are super strong :fear1:

Most of our teams are copies of US baseball/football teams.

1. Cleveland Indians - MI. There is no other point of having Indians as the team name when the whole country is called India

2. San Diego Chargers (Now LA Chargers) - Deccan Chargers

3. Washington capitals (ice hockey) - Delhi capitals

and the others named repetitively after something boring about kings like super kings, kings 11 and royals. kolkata has the most funny looking name knight riders named after a tv series in the 80s :lol:only kochi, pune and hyderabad have some decent names tuskers, warriors and sunrisers. even pune in 16-17 had rising super giants

knowing the precedence set by other teams, its only fair that a team assigned to Kanpur or Lucknow should be called Cowboys like Dallas Cowboys and just like Dallas gained the name of America's team as their was no other team in the bible belt south at that time, Kanpur cowboys will be the India's team with yogiji oath to gauraksha as the slogan (and free pits in the stadium to spit pan) covering the cowbelt regions uniting all the states covered and they will beat the MI, CSK and all other teams black and blue will be the perfect script for the development of IPL in these areas :winky: (note; @asterix@Global.Baba)

Kochi Tuskers, now that is an original and cool name, and represents the state well.

And now Delhi Capitals.

WTF is a Super King?  A King XI?  A Royal?  A Royal Challenger (at least there is a liquor association there)?  Our obsession with royalty is revolting.

Bihar Bahubalis....state famous for them strongmen and dons who wield political power/influence.

UP too has plenty of them but Yogiji is castrating them one by one.  Besides Cow suits them so well, had SP been in power we would have seen Lucknow/Awadh Nawabs or something like that.

Dunno if you guys followed PHL (precursor to Hockey India League), it had some of the best names: Sher-e-Jalandhar, Chennai Veerans, Maratha Warriors, Hyderabad Sultans, Bangalore Hi-Fliers...

Chennai Veerans is apt.  Sher-e-Jalandhar is really cool!  Nawab, Awadh Nawab also glorify royalty, and may also trigger religious discussions.

Hyderabad Keyboard Warriors.  Bengaluru Silicon Knights.

Hope to see an Assam Rhinos team as well, should spark interest in NE which IMO has the best athletic talent (per capita) in India. Cricket needn't be the number one sport, but a little bit of push can pay excellent dividends in the long run. One thing I am sure is they will dominate women's cricket if given backing, they have already taken over Indian women's football. Look at how Manipur dominates our national championship. Dunno why BCCI has failed to spark interest there.
