Only Kp comes close. Also Gill will perform better than Pope in tests, just wait for some time. If you play 40% of your tests in England, even 45 is a good test average. Swag Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Samson or Ishan for me. Gill will be more reliable/consistent, however I'm talking in a sense where players singlehandedly change the course of matches and become stars overnight.
Vk1 Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Shubman Gill.. if he doesnt focus too much on T20s. express bowling 1
nevada Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Let Kohli be the last superstar. I would rather see the team win with a bunch of ordinary players than lose matches and destroy the team for superstar ego. maniac, Vk1 and raki05 3
Gollum Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 We are yet to produce a left handed ATG in batting, hope Padikkal or Jaiswal can change that. raki05 1

No need to be charitable and make allowances for english batsmen. A 45 average in England is equal to exactly 45 in India, not a run more. Indian and bowlers from elsewhere struggle to adjust to bowling conditions in England and Australia and their batsmen deservedly make hay. That's what home condition advantage is all about. Exactly ! When a test match is going on in India and SENA batters are dismissed cheaply, they say it is because of under-prepared pitch. In the same test, they have the gall to say that our batters are scoring runs because of a flat pitch. So no need to make allowances for them. sarchasm and raki05 1 1

Sandeep99 Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Don't need superstars at all... the day India fields something like Bairstow-Roy-Root-Morgan-Stokes-Buttler, that is enough. I will take 6 batsmen who average 35 each at a strike rate of 110 over top 3 with 50 average at 85 strike rate and rest of the line up that keeps getting chopped and changed. Rohit Sharma and Kohli broke so many milestones and records yet have they won us a single worldcup? Or a must win overseas test series? Or clutch performances when team needs them most? Example: Worldcup Semi final? Say what you may about Dhoni of him leaving everything to the end but he was a clutch player who put a price on his wicket in must win games. We only won last game with AUS because of pandya and jadeja scoring above the rate predicted to give a fighting chance. This was same thing that happened in world cup semi where Jadeja and Dhoni could not bail us out of similar situation. Rohit, Kohli, Iyer, Pandey and others would have settled for 275 and still lost instead of scoring 300+ This world cup both t20 and 50 overs we will lose because of this nonsense antics of no X factor players other than Pandya. Its pathetic that we have two "best batsman in odi world" but can't win a series overseas or worldwide. They should be ashamed of themselves. Exactly these superstars gave us jack S*** in terms of ICC trophies. Buttler, Stokes, Smith are the real superstars of world cricket on the basis of big match impact & performances when it matters. I'll be happy too if we have superstars in that mould. raki05 and BlueBlood 1 1

Find an opener who gets 30-35 runs on an average at 110-120 strike rate . 2. Find a # 4 who can bat around 100 strike rate but consistent . 3. Have 5 & 6 who can bat > 120 strike rate and average around 30+ with at least 65% success rate . Do we not have players who can be groomed for the above . I think we have . a) Test Shaw, Samson /Ishhan for that opener spot. b) Test Gill , Padikkal , Ruturaj - Need a good player of spin but good vs pace too , (Iyer , SKY for #4 - both have some issues though . ) c) 5 & 6 - have already KL, Hardik. Add Pant in the mix. Add to this Rohit & Virat - who change gears as they progress. Sandeep99 1

Sean Bradley Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 I have huge expectations from Rituraj Gaikwad....I don't know if he ll be a superstar or not. If he can serve the country the way Rahul Dravid did, without really worrying about these superstar tags, we would have found a gem.

Check this scorecard right here:https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/8039/scorecard/1144528/india-vs-new-zealand-1st-semi-final-icc-cricket-world-cup-2019 This is exactly what I mean. I am the last person to defend Dhoni but he put a price on his wicket and fought till the end. Look at the top order collapse. This same tournament Rohit hit 5 centuries to pad his record which are meaningless as India was going to semis anyways whether he hit those centuries or not. Dhoni has failed on most occasions. WT20, CT, WC, so many appearances, so little to show. The only superclutch batsmen we have produced are Gambhir (07 and 11) and Srikkanth (83 WC, 85 WCC). Quote The idiocy is to put Rohit Sharma and Kohli on a pedastal when they both failed every single time on clutch games. CT game against Pak, world cup semi finals, t20 wc semis etc. Agree that they have failed a lot in ICC KOs but not every single time. Kohli is WT20 GOAT for his knocks in must-win matches. Rohit scored that crucial 140 against BD in 2015 QF without which we were surely getting knocked out. But agree with your sentiment. Our top 3 'stars' have been mental midgets. He is a kind of cricket wise brainy while batting and good against pace & spin , plays shots in gaps and over the infield well , good defense too . Need such a guy at #4 who can easily score around 100 strike rate and anchor one end to support 5,6 & 7 hitters in a 50 over game . My 2 bets for #4 for 50 overs - Gill & Him if Kohli does not leave #3 ( am not sold on Iyer, Pandey ) . Again these 2 could be future MO bats for tests.
ShoonyaSifar Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Gill and Shaw (only IF he stops his drinking binges and gets fitter). Sarfaraz Khan could be a dark horse if he stays focussed. Has started to get fitter and the results showed in a stellar FC season. India A tours next. He also needs a good mentor like Amre or Mazumdar or Abhishek Nayar to push him to aim higher. Gaekwad (could be a better version of Rahane) for LOIs. Will also watch Padikkal's growth. I have also been a fan of Pant. He could not sustain the initial success but under a new captain and a more professional coaching set up, he may still go on to have a great career. Now for the reality check, sadly for us, till the time Kohli is captain, no younger player, irrespective of talent, will prosper. Almost 6 years of him as Test captain, 4 years as ODI captain (and 7 years as RCB captain) and we are yet to see one single young player step up under him. Says enough about lack of man management and an inability to create the right environment for talented players to realise their potential
