Rahane dropped a sitter. Read that we dropped 2 more.

Thakur dropped Green off his own bowling. Pant and Pujara made a mess of an edge. Pujara almost got there but it was low and couldn't hang on. But if Pujara stayed in orthodox first slip which is slightly behind the keeper, it wouldn't have carried to him and would be a keeper's catch. Couldn't call it a chance but poor keeping technique by Pant to go to his left and then to his right in an attempt to catch the ball. It was Natarajan who was basically slanting away from Labu.

This is what the fielding coach should have done in the preparation for the tour. In that case, Pant would have played all 4 matches. No need for specialist keeper Saha and Pant would have scored important runs in the first test as well. He would have counter attacked in the 3rd innings in adelaide and we would have reached 100. Not to mention we dropped several dollies in that test too. A case of missed opportunities has hurt us. We could easily be 2-0 up making gabba a dead rubber.

The emphasis needs to shift from just Fitness to more on being Match ready which including Catching practise.

IMO none of these guys use soft hands which is very essential for slip catching. That is also a reflection on how poor they are against spin bowlers. Second thing as you said they might not be doing enough catching practice.

If second thing is true the fielding coach along with all the coaching staff have to be booted out.Fielding is one thing you always have to give 100% effort.

Shardul created opportunities too.

The fielding coach can't do much with catch misses by Shardul , Rahane. Shardul and Rahane have dropped regulation catches .

Pant/Pujara case is slightly different but this has been a problem for very long much before them.

Fielding of both teams have been woeful in this series. So annoying to see to top sides do elementary mistakes like this in every innings.

I think India has dropped more sitters than tough ones though

I saw some headline yesterday saying Marnus and Nicholls have been the luckiest batsmen this past year.  Didn't read the details, but they were probably talking about lives on the cricket field.

Rahane had a disastrous tour but one magical 100 and thats what mattered and he had so many lives in it :hatsoff:

Thank you cricket god (sachin) @zen @Gollum @Laaloo

I think last drop from head was after he made the 100. first drop was when he was at ~65

Our catches always end up hurting us in the context of the game. Same in England 2018, SA 2017 and now here. Could have won in Adelaide and had Australia 250 for 6/7 down today.

The one Rahane dropped wasn't even a slip catch. He dropped it because he was sleeping.

He was in no position. A fielder at Gully should be on his toes for balls flying either side of him. He looked surprised to see it travel there as if the match was on a Chennai dustbowl

I wonder if in slips they are working on technique at all? Long ago, I saw commentators were criticising the balance of slip fielder and how his weight transfer affects the catching. Also for Pant, always his natural movement is towards his left. This makes even simple chances on the right look very difficult.

Siraj drops the series , Smith 100 inevitable and that will take the target to 300+ in 3 sessions.

How is it possible for a team to drop so many sitters?
