Happy retirement to a genuine power hitter at his peak...  Almost managed to win us a GOAT ODI series win in SA vs peak Steyn Morkel in 2011..  Gosh the way he spanked them in that final ODI..  As a kid  I was crying after we lost that close game midnight. Our superstars shat their pants that night...  Except Yusuf

Underachieved big time

He has decent contributions for India and his exploits for Rajasthan will always be remembered. Underacheived ? perhaps but the guy has two World Cup medals.

I think Indian cricket should feel short changed with Yusuf Pathan. I think he had immense talent but he never worked towards improving or getting better as a batsman or bowler. People may scoff at it but he had a potential to have Andrew Symonds type career for Indian cricket but he never reached the next level as a cricketer.

Good cricketer, like his brother, never fulfilled his abilities.

Have a feeling had he won us that game vs SA and has he been promoted ahead of Jadeja in that WT20 match, his career would have gone in a different direction.

Sometimes you have to be in the right place at the right time.

For example had Ishant not bowled that spell to Ponting in a match we ended up winning, not sure if he would have got the same backing or Pandya smacking Pakistanis 2 games in a row.

Even DK got a nice payoff out of that Nidihaas cameo.

You are right. The highlight of his career should be making the first XI of India's 2011 WC side. The way he didn't grab that opportunity & let Raina get back into the XI sums up his overall career.

Apart from his well known 100 in RSA, didn't he also score a crazy daddy hundred while chasing 500 odd in FC Cricket? :hmmmm2: Anyhoo happy retirement.

It was the same year 2010. He was in different zone that year, big hundreds, fast hundreds, insane run of form. But couldn't replicate that in 2011 after SA tour

He also scored a 37(?) ball 100 in IPL which was hailed by Warne as the best he'd ever seen :p:.

2 outstanding knocks he played

If he had won us that game It'd have been among the Top 3 knocks ever played by an Indian..  Needed only one guy to stick with him & a maiden ODI series win vs an ATG SA in their own den would've been possible.  Still Unreal knock.

He also scored a 100 I think at home vs NZ in an ODI while chasing 300+

Apart from the above mentioned knocks his unbeaten 100 against NZ in 2010, Chinnaswamy was fun to watch. One of his 6s went out of the stadium and we saw shades of peak Cairns/Kemp in that shot, remember us thrashing them 5-0 in that series under skipper Gambo.

To me that was the best overseas tour in that decade even considering england 2007 ans aus 2003. The whole tour india was fantastic after getting thrashed in first test.India Nearly won the third test and final odi. Pathans sixes of steyn in final odi made him a sureshot starter for the 2011 w cup above Raina. I also remember the odi where S africa massively choked and Munaf patel took two wickets in 2 balls lol and they needed some 2 runs
