Of Kohli and team's Success

Whats with the Hyperbole of 1000 wickets  ?

Due to no DRS there were a lot of not outs too which went Kumble and Harbhajan's way.

The way these people talk, seems like no decision has gone against bowlers since DRS came into usage.

Ok Kumble, Bhajji getting 700-1000 wickets whatever.

Warne 1200?

Murali 2000?

What is left for fast bowlers? Does DRS work in favor of spinners and against quicks? Zaheer would have ended with 30 wickets, Ambrose 60, McGrath 80? How much would ATG batsmen Lara, Sachin score today, less than Ishant? Will Gambo apply the same rule to batsmen including himself? Need some clarity here.

Since this is the season of hyperbole next:

Had Smith played in 90s and 2000s he would have scored 90k test runs at 250 avg, 300 centuries including 80 300s with a HS of 1100, cos DRS, pitches

Had Kohli played in that era, 100k ODI runs at 280 avg and 400 SR, cos DRS, pitches

Had Rohit played then, at least 6 dozen ODI 300s, cos DRS, pitches

Hamare zamane mein blah blah blah....so extend same courtesy to modern cricketers.

Since when has stating facts become being bitter? He has not tried to run down Ashwin's achievements at all.

Cricinfo published an article which showed how the % of LBWs spinners have been getting has gone by 3X since DRS came into the picture. Add the other mode like bat-pads and the number does become significant especially for someone like Kumble whose straighter deliveries would have far more deadly.

And no some decision going his way due to bad umpiring will not offset the potential numbers due to DRS

With DRS not only have umpire's stated giving more batters out their effective judgment area, according to one expert, has increased by 30% - huge difference in there! And just like everyone here has a "right" to their opinion, he also has that right. As far as I'm concerned Kumble & Harbhajan both would have better stats in this era. Whether you want to see that as rose tinted, blue tinted or green tinted opinion - that's entirely up to you!

India accepted DRS in Nov 2016 and that is a FACT. Will be interesting to see stats of bowlers in the 2011-16 period and compare to 2016-21.

Also I am now assuming Indian spinners rocked in 2008 Lanka and 2011 Eng when we had DRS in some form.

Imagine if we had no DRS this series :dontknow:. That is how it was in the 90s with legendary home umpiring.

DRS, umpiring, LBW...Sorry Bhajji, no hat-trick

Kumble's 10fer as well, dodgy.

Thankful that cricket is such a fair sport now. All previous records have * attached for teams/batsmen/bowlers everyone involved, not this era.

No chucking check

Clampdown on fixing check

Tough on ball tampering check

Neutral umpiring check

DRS check

Technology to aid officials check

Fairest era of cricket, no wonder Pakistan is struggling so much.

We did not know how to use DRS back then. Plus the technology itself was rudimentary and resulted in so many questionable decisions.

Kumble would have certainly got more

Harbhajan well he would have been banned long before had the rules been made bit more stricter,so no point of him getting more wickets

Him getting 400 is in itself a charity done to him ,he should rather pay royalty to ICC each month

India already won 2011 WC,2013 "Champions" trophy  which had DRS

So they won in "fairest"era

BTW Anil Kumble & other seniors were at the forefront of dismissing DRS. Too bad they caused themselves thousands of wickets.

That DRS version used in 2008 was a complete joke, plus inconsistent umpires (Doctrove and Benson :wall:) not applying the rules properly made it even worse. However by 2010-11, there were better versions available and the opposition to it did not make much sense afterwards

This is why I like athletics, swimming where it is athlete vs clock. Even chess....

Carl Lewis can't say that hamare zamane mein we used to run 100m in 8 seconds followed by 200m in 15 seconds after a minute of rest , tomorrow if someone has sub 9.50 timings everyone will just have to accept that Usain Bolt is not the fastest ever.

Same with chess, and it happens. Karpov back in 2014 claimed that his match against Korchnoi was qualitatively better than the Anand-Carlsen Sochi match and how 'that' Karpov would beat both the 2014 WCC players easily. And he was laughed off by everyone, including his own Russian followers. Computer engines are there ready to bust any such nonsense, just upload the moves and computer will let you know about accuracy, strong/weak moves, blunders, missed wins etc. Tal wasn't joking when he said the 50 yo version of him would smash the 1960 version of him when he was world champ. And computers have proved him right, how unsound his sacrifices were in his younger years....good enough to bamboozle players of that era but easy to refute in the post-Petrosian world.

Now look at the non-stop, nonsense chudaap in cricket:

Thommo bowling 180kph

Barry Richards so bored that he scored a 100 just using edge of the bat

Underwood and Chandra spinning it like Warne at 120kph

Random guys hitting 150m 6s with the small bats available then

1000 wickets, 700 wickets type imagination/scenario building

So many myths, lies, half-truths. Sure respect past legends, apply the 'champion in one era will always be a champion in another' rule, even justify the greatness of past players and talk about the challenges they overcame.

But myth making in cricket is at another level, can't talk about 60s/70s/80s, but most of us grew up with the fab 4 team, saw almost all matches in late 90s and 2000s. So when they are made to appear greater than they were, not all of us are ready to accept like sheep. Doesn't give me happiness when I have to use harsh language against ex-Indian players and teams but fekne ke bhi limit hoti hai.

ICC test mace 5 years in a row. Series win in Aus. Come back when your team achieves either of those.
