R!TTER Posted March 5, 2021 Posted March 5, 2021 I think he'll bat higher - definitely can bat higher & is a worse bowler/fielder overall. Jadeja is still primarily a bowling A/R in tests, Sundar can be more like Stokes a batting A/R. raki05 1

He has the potential to be a 47+ averaging batsman in test cricket. Can play both pace and spin ... knows where his off stump is and leaves the ball well ... plays the ball under his eyes ... is good both on the front foot and off the back foot ... has most shots in the book. Plus has a very good temperament. Very very promising batsman. Like Sundar, even Smith was always a batsman. His bowling was just an ally to break into the Australian team obsessed with leg spinners after the retirement of Warne and McGill. vijaydude 1

Gollum Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 (edited) Should be given a continuous run for 2-3 years in all formats. Potential to be our MVP of this decade, can't allow him to warm the benches or rot away in domestic. We have a potential superstar in him, as a batting A/R he can be a much higher version of Shakib. In tests give him a run at #5, enough of Rahane, our batting stocks aren't that poor that we need to give this Indian 'Asad Shafiq' 100 test caps. Inept at home, scores a 100 once in 6 years in SENA, no consistency, what does Rahane bring to the table in 2021? I remember having a discussion with KT around 3 years back where he was hyping up Shaw and me Sundar. Can't find that thread (how many have been deleted?) but I said ki Washi can be as good as Mike Hussey with the bat based on what I saw in that TN league. Something special about this kid. Gill, Pant, Sundar, Bumrah, Siraj what a brilliant young core we have!!!! Hope Shaw and Kuldeep also do justice to their ability. Other handy players as well but these guys can end up as greats. Will be disappointing if we don't win at least 50% of ICC trophies henceforth........and we must look to have an uninterrupted reign as as test #1 for as long as ATG WI, Aus. Majestic Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 Steve Smith is a story for ages. It will be hard for Sundar to reach that bar. He can be Stokes/ Shakib type all-rounder.

He isn't a power hitter, so wasted at #7 or #8. A tall, all-round, shotmaking LHB who can also double up as a reliable defensive spinner. Unlike in tests his bowling in PP and death in white ball cricket is very useful. I remember having a discussion with KT around 3 years back where he was hyping up Shaw and me Sundar. TN screwed him big time by not playing him enough in Ranjis. had he had sufficient exposure, he would have been much closer to finished product with ball and bat.
