Trichromatic Posted March 6, 2021 Author Posted March 6, 2021 How long is rope for Kohli? Will he be dropped if he performs like this for another 5 matches? Another 10 matches? velu, beetle and Clarke 2 1
AuxiliA Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 No way is he going to be dropped as a captain, let alone as a player, before the 2023 WC. This team is good enough to keep winning despite his captaincy flaws. nevada 1

Can happen in home test series and bilateral LOI series. But will be very tough in 50 over World Cups and away test series against big teams. Mosher 1
Mariyam Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 We need a jingle to get rid of Kohli. I've seen that jingles generally tend to work in case of calamities. Corona couldn't last long against the "Go Corona Go" assault. Any ideas? Cricketics, Indwin, Banton and 1 other 4

His overseas losses don't look that bad compared to his predecessors. Recent form slump aside he's still our best batsman across formats. Selectors can't drop him as captain just like that. It would take a test series loss at home or group stage exit at a WC to get rid of him. Both unlikely. Clarke 1

In test matches, I like to look at series records against bigger teams. Even against Australia in 2017 at home, it was left to Rahane, the captain, to win the series in the last match. 2014-15 Aus Away ... Draw in the only test he captained in 2015 SA Home ... Win 2016 NZ Home .... Win 2016 Eng Home ... Win 2017 Aus Home ... 1 - 1 under Kohli ... series won by Rahane the captain 2018 SA Away ... Loss 2018 Eng Away ... Loss 2018-19 Aus Away ... Win 2019 SA Home ... Win 2020 NZ Away ... Loss 2020 Aus Away ... 0 - 1 under Kohli ... series won by Rahane the captain So ... It is 5 series wins, 4 series losses and 2 draws by Kohli, the captain, against big teams before this series. Quote His overseas losses don't look that bad compared to his predecessors. We have done well in the 2002 to 2011 period as well as 1971 to 1974. Quote Recent form slump aside he's still our best batsman across formats. Definitely. Anyone can go through a tough phase. I have no issues with his batting yet. Just want him to get back to his usual form. Quote Selectors can't drop him as captain just like that. It would take a test series loss at home or group stage exit at a WC to get rid of him. Both unlikely. Yes ... in practice it will be difficult to remove him as a captain. But we should try to move away from " make your best player the captain " policy after Kohli is done as a captain. Edited March 6, 2021 by express bowling AuxiliA, Banton, Lone Wolf and 2 others 5
Bigg Brother Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Moving on from him and dropping is a bit exaggeration. He will start scoring for sure but He should be removed as captain, It's his 7th year as Captain & India has shown that they can without him be it as player or Captain. He is not even our best batsman as of now beetle 1

Vijy Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Our batting averages in the last 10 tests are pathetic overall. With batting like this, chances of winning are greatly reduced. https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;spanmin1=18+oct+2019;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting Rahane - 36, Pujara - 29, Kohli - 29, Agarwal - 34 (even with a big 200), Gill - 34, Vihari/Shaw/Saha < 20. Only bright spots are Rohit - 55, Pant - 46.5, Sundar - 66, and Jadeja - 58.
chewy Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 (edited) I just hope India win WTC in June, but big if And then Kohli steps down as Test captain, and Pujara and Rahane announce retirement If India loses WTC and team remains unchanged then gonna be tough English tour. England curators are going return the favour And King Curran will rule once again Edited March 6, 2021 by chewy

dilliboy Posted March 6, 2021 Posted March 6, 2021 Happens to every great player.. I am more disappointed with that mediocrity called Rahane being still in the team
