No way is he going to be dropped as a captain, let alone as a player, before the 2023 WC. This team is good enough to keep winning despite his captaincy flaws.

I know. But look at Kohli's captaincy record (W/L).  He's India's best ever by a mile. His overseas losses don't look that bad compared to his predecessors. Recent form slump aside he's still our best batsman across formats.

 

Selectors can't drop him as captain just like that. It would take a test series loss at home or group stage exit at a WC to get rid of him. Both unlikely.

In test matches, I like to look at series records against bigger teams. Even against Australia in 2017 at home, it was left to Rahane, the captain, to win the series in the last match.

 

2014-15 Aus Away ... Draw in the only test he captained in

 

2015 SA Home ... Win

 

2016 NZ Home .... Win

 

2016 Eng Home ... Win

 

2017 Aus Home ... 1 - 1 under Kohli ... series won by Rahane the captain

 

2018 SA Away ... Loss

Definitely. Anyone can go through a tough phase. I have no issues with his batting yet. Just want him to get back to his usual form.

Yes ... in practice it will be difficult to remove him as a captain.

 

But we should try to move away from " make your best player the captain " policy after Kohli is done as a captain.

Moving on from him and dropping is a bit exaggeration. He will start scoring for sure but He should be removed as captain, It's his 7th year as Captain & India has shown that they can without him be it as player or Captain. He is not even our best batsman as of now

pathetic numbers. most of our lower order is better than him - ashwin, jaddu, pant, sundar, etc. he should play at 5 or 6 perhaps.

Our batting averages in the last 10 tests are pathetic overall. With batting like this, chances of winning are greatly reduced.
