Om Shanti, legend.

Was 91, his wife passed away last week. Life well led, now time to rest. Best possible tribute will be India winning an athletics medal in Tokyo, was his lifelong dream.

Looked so sharp and fit at the age of 90

Life of suffering, not many ATG athletes can achieve half of what he did if put in a similar situation. Lost his parents, brothers, sisters in partition violence in West Pakistan...tragically he was witness to those gruesome killings by frenzied mobs. Came to India with nothing, just over a decade later 0.1 sec from winning the bronze in Rome Olympics (despite our pathetic sports infra/support), a historic race where the top 4 including Milkha smashed the Olympics record. Adopted a Kargil martyr's orphan child, saw his son achieve great feats in golf. Great man, fascinating life!!!!!!

India is poorer with the loss of yet another legend.

Did he look back or is that a myth?

In his own words, he looked back and more than once in that race. Anyway it isn't as uncommon as you'd think, even Jesse Owens lost a race because of that, Bolt too has done it a couple of times but still good enough to win.

4th finish by an Indian in 400m in olympics is the best any Indian has in track. Almost  impossible for any Indian to beat that. Truly an Indian legend.
