  1. 1. Are the young Indian batsmen overrated

    • Yes, there is more hype than substance
    • No, they are not

The Sri Lankan team is so bad and yet they almost won the series against this young Indian team.

The hype before the series was these young guns are going to blaze away and crush this second (or third) string SriLankan team to pieces but alas that is not to be.

Sri Lanka could have easily won the 2nd ODI but for the backend heroics of Deepak Chahar (who is not really a youngster) and the third ODI is one sided more or less.

Are we rating these youngsters too higher than what they deserve to be. Are Kohli and Rohit still the best batsmen for India.

Rohit and Kohli are still the best batsman in the Indian team. That's true.

But seniors didn't really stood up much.

Pandya was flop.

Bhuvi didn't do much.

Dhawan played a support knock in 1st ODI but failed in next two.

Pandey was crap.

Now, coming to youngsters, below youngsters are very good:-

Shaw

Gill

Kishan

Shreyas

SKY

Samson

But Pant and Rahul are better than them and India were missing them too.

Yup, they are. Still some people want them to replace Rohit -Kohli. Those good looking 30-40 runs arent going to help in long run.

You need a combination of both.

Those 30-40 will be impactful when they will have Rohit and Kohli scoring big runs alongside them at the S/R which they are doing from last couple of years.

Rohit and Kohli need a Shaw or Kishan alongside them.

Rahul and Pant should have a backup like SKY.

OP is not trying to compare the performance of debutants with the seniors.

All he is saying is that many ICFers overrate and hype these youngsters.  And he is spot on.

hype is based on potential and domestic which is justified

its not like Kohli Rohit performed from get go.Give these guys time

We won the first game thanks to these guys only

We won the first game mainly due to oldies.  Dhawan who scored unbeaten 86 and Chahal  picked up 2 crucial top order wickets.

no

Dhawan was struggling big time but Shaw Kishan took off all the pressure. After that he could play at his own pace.

in bowling Bhuvi got smacked.Chahal was decent at best.Rahul Chahar was much better today

Sri Lanka is missing 8 first choice players.

They're missing none except Kusal Perera and maybe Mathews. All others that to they're "missing" are mediocrities that lost 3-0 to toygers.

There is no such thing as "first choice" for a team like Sri Lanka which makes 4-5 changes every series.

They are good and deservingly playing, though I would doubt the inclusion of K Gowtham in this team, I don't find his bowling special. Our batters are really good against pace but theirs a big question mark over their spin playing ability, and that "Indians Play spin better" is a thing of past.

Their best bowler Hasaranga did not play today. Yet we lost it.
