The Realist
Kumble is yesterday's man. May as well bring back Duncan Fletcher. Identify a young, hungry ambitious coach with fresh ideas. Need to look forwards not backwards. Edited September 17, 2021 by The Realist Link to comment

Selectors could have done that if they wanted to. Instead they pick Kohli for the big tournament and then decide to play political games at the same time. If they decided to bet on Kohli, they should support him fully and then worry about making changes after the World Cup was done. Link to comment

Left with no choice Kumble did the honorable think by resigning. Don't think players were consulted. Go back to 2017 Dharmshala test, Kohli didn't want Kuldeep to play, Kumble pressed for him, Rahane also supprted Kumble, Kuldeep played , we won the test and the series with Kohli sitting out. How could Kohli's big fat ego take that insult. Kohli sat out that match due to injury(but still carried drinks onto the field). Instead of picking another batsman in his place, Rahane and Kumble picked a bowler, Kuldeep. Series on the line, pretty much everyone was shocked about this selection. It was a very risky but ballsy move. And it paid off. India won the match, with Rahane playing a nice cameo to finish off the chase. Kohli couldn't digest this. At all. sorak and ShoonyaSifar 2 Link to comment

If he had better sense, he wouldn't have made idiotic selections over the years and there wouldn't be a need to oppose his choices. Only a spineless yes man will put up with whatever he does. Under the current selector regime, his reign of idiocy is coming to an end. He badmouthed Abhimanyu Easwaran and wanted a replacement but the selectors would have none of it. They involved Rohit in the selection process for the T20WC and have appointed Dhoni as a mentor with selection powers to keep Kohli under check. Link to comment

Recycling same coaches, hiring needless mentors & creating power groups etc. As a fan I wasn't happy when Kumble left he was no where close to being done. Circumstances of his exit made it worst. Circumstances of his exit made it worst. Note on personal front. I have professionally done well under a tough boss, they make you sweat but then fight for you to get what is rightfully yours. This is exactly what Kumble was doing. As Anil Kumble’s coaching stint with the India team abruptly ended on Tuesday, the biggest loss in the captain-coach saga is not to the legendary leg spinner but Virat Kohli and Co. It’s a loss the Indian cricket team may have to bear on and off the field. Off the field, India have lost the lone voice that showed gumption to fight for a fairer share for players from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) kitty. Despite just a one-year contract, he put his job on line to engage in discussion with the BCCI for a substantial hike in remuneration for the national team players and support staff. In the process, he upset a few BCCI officials. Kumble’s revised remuneration proposal had almost convinced the Committee of Administrators (CoA), it is learnt. “The finance team was looking into the actual figures the players get currently. They were also preparing the figures proposed by Kumble vis-a-vis the revenue BCCI would earn after the revised ICC model,” a source told HT.
