IPL exposes that we Indians ( and actually the whole world ) are utter hypocrites.

Ok, so I am not a fan of the quality of cricket in IPL.

I like IPL for how we call the shots and how the international calendar revolves around our  "domestic" tournament IPL.

It can coincide overlap with other non-India series and cause those players to compromise playing for their country for IPL $$$.

It is pretty much how Eng and Aus called the shots and had dual standards when India was a minnow - both in terms of financial muscle and cricketing strength.

The shoe is in the other foot now.

We Indians feel see nothing wrong with the dual standards this time  - because rest of the cricketing world is  at the receiving end this time.

It is "payback" time for us.

In the world outside cricket - China arm twists, has dual standards, resorts to economic and military coercion since its rise to a great power status.

The world feels the heat - and without a doubt China is a rogue bully, led by CCP thugs.

The common man in China and CCP feels this is " China's century" and everything they do is justified because they experienced humiliation by all the colonial powers in Europe + Japan.

In 20- 25 years - when India becomes as powerful as China is today, the common man in India will see nothing wrong if India acts like China is acting now (and what we find absolutely outrageous )

Moral of the story:  When you have power, morals/ethics are seen differently from when you are not as powerful - this applies to cricket administration, geopolitics and life.

Moral of the story is fine but what is the moral of this thread?

Moral of the thread is that -   ICFers who think that every foreign criticism of IPL and the so  called "bullying" by BCCI/IPL is jealousy  ----- they  are hypocrites.

We would feel the same as those foreign individuals/ entities that are criticizing us - if  England or Australia set such dual standards.

But clearly they don't have that power now.

Boo hoo hoo...no corona this time to stop IPL..boo hoo hoo.

Despite the crappy pitches, well done BCCI to give more grief to these holdings. More wailing to come next year with a 10 team tournament.

So, in a world of hypocrites you want India to act like nice guys and pretend like the losers when they can actually dominate this sport because they now have the power which was built due to sheer passion, love and craze for the game?

Let’s see IPL is an Indian domestic league. Cricketers all over the world want to play. They get NOCs from their boards. Their boards get a cut from their pay. So boards are allowing their players to participate. We are not arm twisting anyone here.

these threads are pointless until each contributor makes it clear which format they would choose if only one were to survive - IPL or test cricket. the OP clearly chooses test cricket and believes the IPL is a threat to it's long term future. the thread means little without first declaring your position.

I don't understand the point of this thread? Do you want BCCI to terminate IPL or something?

Unless you have  serious comprehension issues, thats not what I meant.

What I  meant was people have a fluid morality depending upon whether they are in power ( like we are now ) ...or not ...

When England and Australia ran the show in ICC before the emergence of India as a major force in cricket....we were quite upset at the dual standards.

All formats are good ( including IPL )  as long as it is not to the detriment of purest form of the game - TEST CRICKET - ( either because of player absence  or scheduling )

This thread is to say that - should England or Australia have come up with a T20 tournament that was lucrative enough for our cricketers to either skip national duty either due to scheduling or injury caused by that tournament --  characters here would heap hatred on Eng/Aus.

But since it's us who are doing it instead, its all kosher.

the IPL is to the detriment of the test format though as you point out. therefore all formats are in fact not 'good'.

Says who?

IPL subsidizes Indian test cricket.  And it pays millions to the top non-Indian stars - Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, etc so that they don't have to go chasing after extra income, and are free to concentrate and prioritize Test cricket - if they choose to do so.  Somebody like ABDV can choose to retire from international cricket and play IPL - that's his choice.  Not the IPL's.

The fact that the IPL compensates each participating international player's home board with 10% of the salary is also non-trivial.

This mythology of "IPL is detrimental to test cricket" lacks substantial evidence.

the IPL gives them the choice to discard test cricket. are you ok with that? i am not saying the IPL is without benefit. but there can be only one winner in this fight

Don't think you can blame the IPL for giving them that choice.  Players were discarding test cricket even without IPL - take for example, that Zafar kid that England brought to India for a test tour as a "spinner" - he was never going to get IPL contracts and decided to 'discard' test cricket to pursue accounting or whatever.

In pre-IPL days, Brian Lara led a players strike against the West Indies Board and threatened to 'discard' a test tour.  If anything, these days, players are more willing to play international cricket for their boards, from a position of financial security - or maybe to audition themselves for the "big show".  But whatever.

It all depends on how you want to look at it.   If not for the IPL $$$ many more cricket boards would be struggling to pay their cricketers enough compensation to satisfy them.  That's just fact.

So overall, taking the big picture into account, it is misleading to say IPL 'hurts' test cricket, when there's plenty of evidence pointing to the contrary.

In Australia, the general feeling is hatred and jealousy about how powerful India have become.

Im happy that India is a super power in world cricket and of the world in the future, however I would like the BCCI to lay foundations now to ensuring India maintain their super power status.

We need to be constantly generate youth from all over the country and set in place a system that India can always field not just a strong team, but multiple teams to cover for anything that may happen.

Kohli has proven that we must not allow one person to completely rule all the teams. I think he has harmed the careers of many promising youngsters in India with the lack of opportunities at the right time for them to develop and gain confidence.
