Bharat Arun the Team India bowling coach will leave after T20 WC alongwith Shastri and fielding coach Sridhar

Arun had been instrumental in India's rise as a pace bowling powerhouse in last 5-6 years

A very important figure in the history of Indian cricket. Hope he stays involved with Indian cricket  in some capacity.

Arun's contributions in these 9-10 years, first as NCA bowling coach, then as the bowling coach between 2014-16 and 2017-21 have been immense. Lots of positives but equally there were missed opportunities.

 

Our test bowling has been at a different level and a lot of credit goes to Arun. We now have a very structured system for identifying and grooming them from a young age.

 

However, our LOI bowling has been in absolute pits in the last 2-3 years and there seems to no cure to it. Young spinners not developing in the set up has been another area of improvement.

 

Overall, a good call to move on after nearly 6 year long successful stint. Will not be bad for Indian cricket to have fresh ideas from a new bowling coach.

Coaches are never as good as fans start thinking based on player performance and results - neither are they as bad as fans conclude, based on player performance and results.

i admit i was one of Shastri critic and wanted a international experienced bowler as bowling coach but both have won me over , nothing more satisfying when someone u dnt rate wins u over

Shastri is very shrewd. He asked for Bharat over guys like Zak and got killed for it.

 

He knew Bharat Arun, was his friend so knew what he is capable of as a coach. A guy who knows how to coach and a buddy so win-win for Shastri.
 

Shastri isn’t going to do any coaching because he doesn’t know how to coach, he retired from cricket one day and showed up as a commentator the very next day.

 

Anyway identifying people to work for you is also a talent and add to that his amazing salesman skills. That’s Shastri’s strength.

In his initial stint from 2014-16, the focus was on knuckle balls and slower variations while Umesh and Aaron got derailed. Naturally, there were apprehensions about him returning as a bowling coach replacing Zaheer Khan (who was appointed as the bowling consultant for 150 days just a few months earlier).

His stint with us coincided with Bumrah's emergence,

Umesh looked a different bowler in tests from 2016

Aaron was very unlucky,got injured at a time where a comeback was always ruled out(2015 Bangalore test against SA)

Siraj was a forced change in Australia and how well it paid off,

Siraj too credits his success to Arun

What options do we have. Cannot visit the dressing room to ask players what his contributions are. All of Umesh, Shami, Ishant have improved massively during his tenure. Gotta give him that. May not be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but there's no denying he has been a successful coach.

Have seen his interviews In Ashwins youtube channel. Comes across as a very funny and unassuming guy. If you see the episode of brisbane day 5 it’s hilarious in terms of what he was doing in dressing room..

Paras Mambhrey may be one... He has interacted with the youngsters as u-19/a-team bowling coach from last 5-6 years I think

That was Dhonis vision though, i believe kohli gave him a free hand once he became captain

Shastri never hung on too long in any role. He retired from International cricket when he still could play as a player but played one more domestic season to help Mumbai Ranji team.He is quitting Indian team as coach too at the right time. New test cycle needs a new coach. Bharat Arun has been a great bowling coach. Both Shastri and Arun have dispelled this myth that you need foregin coaches. Arun needs to lead NCA and help younger coaches.

 

Hope Kohli follows his coach and quits captaincy. Captaincy has shelf life and it has reached its end for Kohli.
