Some former players have spoken up on twitter

My question is -are other players being spared? If not then why make it about Shami?

Because there is a difference between general hate (which is still pathetic but everyone copes it) and targeting soemone and calling him a traitor just for his religion.

Do you think whatever hate kohli or rohit or bumrah getz they will be called traitors?

Low life scums...   This country has gone nuts.  So much hate.

Try n put pressure through media or BCCI to change playing XI instead of this rubbish.

Hate was always there, magnified by SM presence.

1996: Burnt down the stadium after SF debacle

2003: After initial losses, cricketers' homes were stoned and then it stopped when India found its winning ways against Pak, Zim etc

2007: After the first round ext, a lot of abuses on YT and also homes destroyed

2011: Sab khush with "Humm Jeet Gaye"

Since then, we are losing SFs, so sympathy is there. But any such debacle/loss, mobs have been triggered. This is just masal news for them linking religion to the abuses. How come people don't say Hate has no religion? The common things they spout after every terrorists attack.

Kohli is definitely being called that for smiling with Rizwan etc. It might be on this forum itself too.

In understand but actually nations look ahead.  Lot more educated folk now.  We are not some third world poverty stricken country of 80's & 00's.

Younger generation has toned it down as well thanks to SM.  People have bigger issues to worry about.

Those days Cricket was bigger than religion.  Fanatics everywhere.   Current Bangladeshis fans come somewhat closer to that picture in SC..  Although we had star studded team unlike them.

Eras change & so does the reaction.  In future perhaps no one will give a damn.

Current Indian players feel 0.1% of pressure that Sachin used to feel in his prime.

Bullshit narrative forming news after Sehwag etc have highlighted select neighborhoods in Delhi and elsewhere had fireworks to celebrate Pakistani win.

For @maniac too

On the contrary this is exactly what spreading hatred leads to. When you take isolated incidents to spread hate  against a community, that hatred is not contained  but spreads  everywhere including to your favorite cricketer from the same community.

Which is why communal hatred is so dangerous, it is a fire which will go out of control

Also its funny how the hatred you spread based on isolated incodents is not a narrative, but the consequences of spreading the hatred is somehow a narrative

Its like striking a match stick in a dry forest and then claiming news of a big fire is just a "narrative"

how is saying ummah ka chummah any better or worse than using religious references like “lanka dahan” “bali ka bakra” etc  or even stereotypes implying a black man has a big “limbs”

Learn the difference between an inappropriate jibe and bigotry.

I condemn the hate against Shami

Also, lol

How's muslims of India celebrating a Pakistani win a law and order problem? Like what crime are the committing?

Applicable CrPC provisions for stoking communal unrest or even sedition. In the past so many FIRs with these charges have been filed and arrests done, look for news reports post 2017 CT win.

Ask some "guys" here, they think we are doing worse than Pakistan, BD, Chad, and Syria because some falana ranking system rates us so.

This is neo-journalism. They read tweets and pass judgement on the society at large. When Irfan or even Shami shared some family pictures, they copped a lot of abuse on SM from Muslim sounding handles on how Muslim women should be dressed in public. They have reported it as news, as only a few 100s would have posted. Same here. Lay journalists not able to do any ground reporting.

Not about that. I am addressing the point where people are saying- this is a narrative started to distract because some Muslims were bursting crackers.

I am saying - some miscreants burst crackers ->highlighted on social media ->hatred spreads->people get license to troll on social media more believing they are being patriotic

Celebrating an enemy country's win is a no-go zone and calling it out is not bigotry I was in Hauz Khas, Delhi last night, Sehwag (if he was at his home) would have heard the same non-stop bursting of crackers that I did. Wasn't an isolated incident l, it went on for nearly 40-45 minutes. It was extremely disturbing.

Mind you in Delhi there is a blanket ban on sale and bursting of crackers.

Maybe they brought crackers for the match anyways? What will you do, throw it in water? Thats like saying if i bought a bottle of whiskey to celebrate, if india lost i should not drink

1) How many do you think did that?

2) Do you think reacting is better or ignoring?

3) Isnt the point of this gesture to rile up people and divide the country? Then shouldnt we be smart and ignore it instead?

4) Always think of what the enemy wants. Its not the joy of celebrating a pakistan win. They 100% wanted attention

They want people to react and spread hatred and divide this country. They want people like shami to be targeted and get disillusioned. They want indians to hate indians.

Why give them what they want?

Nope, ignoring such actions and pretending there is no problem isn't a solution.

Glad Sehwag has called it out, he's now being abused and called a bigot. If that's bigotry, let the nation be full of such bigots

How do you know?

Dude they were not hiding but openly bursting crackers. What do you think calling out did excpet give them attention and spread hatred to people not dojng it, which is exactly what ISI wants

Its weird how you use terms like highlighting and calling it out when they did not hide but want attention to themselves and their actions

Also you say this is a problem, but this hss been happening since independence, so what problem has happened because of these handful of people bursting crackers or waving a flag for over 65 years now?

However when riots and hatred spreads that does harm a nation, which again, is exactly what pakistan and ISI wants. A death by thousand cuts is their strategy
