I am not into Mallus and stuff but Samson could have been given an opportunity over likes of S Iyer. Or even if Pant was rested to prep for the test series.

 

If the conditions are expected to be good for batting, guys like Samson will make more impact. Playing more for India would his confidence as well.

Certainly not. 

S Iyer has a lot more upside and solves a lot more for the team in the middle order than Samson. 

Samson could possibly be tried more but Samson does not solve any existing issues for the team with Pant / Kishan / Paddikal / Venkatesh I  in the mix

I'm biased when it comes to Samson - but even putting that aside, claiming that Shreyas Iyer is better than him? not much to back that up.

Samson has avg of 10 after playing 10 matches(10 innings).   SR 110.   Any one is better than Samson, including U and me.

For all his upside, the only thing one has to do to get him out or keep him quiet is bowl half way down the pitch at 125 plus km / hr.

 

IPL is not international cricket.

IPL is not international cricket.

They are fighting for different spots. Iyer and Samson are solutions for different questions. 

Samson did pretty bad in sri Lanka if I remember. He can still be tried but Iyer would be my choice for middle order

From what I have seen of Samson, he has a more complete game. Success and failure are function of many elements. But if you have an outright chink in your armour, you will be exposed in international cricket.

If we talk about chinks, samsons got plenty. I'd say Iyer has much better game awareness and temperament. 

But again, different positions and different utility to the team for each
