Last time I checked NZ was best test team in world and these players have been rested!

I haven't seen anything like this before.

This arrogance led to the scheduling we saw in the WC, where we had 1 week gap between games unlike no other team - even Shastri said it hurt the team.

This stupid arrogance will again cost the team.

Resting for international commitments against the #1 side, but have to play IPL at all costs.

Running away from a historic test series victory in Eng to play the IPL in UAE.

And then people take exception when IPL is called an albatross for Indian cricket. It is well and truly a cancer.

One can understand Bumrah and Shami being rested.

Because Ashwin, Jadeja, Axar, Umesh and Siraj are good enough to win in tests in India.

But resting Rohit, Pant and Kohli clearly shows that international cricket is becoming secondary for the BCCI.

Not good at all

I was shocked to see a poor batting line-up being made even poorer against the No.1 test team in the world.

Winning a test series in India for India (although result never guaranteed) should be possible without a full strength squad against most teams. So resting these players isn't a bad idea at all.

India look weak on paper with the bat...

The bowling is still very much ace.

I wonder if they will go 7 batters plus jaddu ashwin 2 pacers.

I.e bat all the way to 9 to overcome this weakness.

IPL is more important for Indian cricket than any series.

At least one among Rohit & Pant could have played.  They both will play a useless T20 bilateral series.

Kohli is a non factor..  He is useless & Ajaz Patel with his left arm spin would have owned him like Leach in England series or Moeen.  So at least one non performer is gone.

Our bowling look strong as ever & 2 pacers should be Umesh & Siraj.  No Ishant

Should send Rohit & Pant to South Africa early at least.

HHAHAHA good joke- this is BCCI we are talking about. They would squeeze in ODIs with SL in this time if they could

World test champion ki aisi taisi.. Who Da Faq cares about test champions we only care about global league . Will go to SA without playing any home test matches, won't play practice match and will try to beat SA. Yeah,we are that arrogant.

OR. They want Rahane to prove his captaincy prowess with yet another B team. This achieves two possibilities which selectors want to avoid decision on. One, if India wins then further reinforces the best captain for test for India.  Two, if we lose then easy answer is that Manyawar / lovely is our best bet.

Honestly, annoyed that Rohit is missing the tests.

My favourite player, maybe a bit biased.

I am not sure whether it was his decision or somebody else's.

Rohit has started to establish himself in the Test format as the best Indian batsmen.

He is the oldest (34) out of Kohli, Pujara and Rahane who are all 33. Rohit has not had the same privilege of playing the number of tests the other 3 have. He should not be missing any test, other formats ok to miss.

I think they wanted to avoid making Rahane decision, funny thing he got rewarded with Test Captaincy.

India and New Zealand are the best 2 test sides in the world, unlike other bilateral series, in test format these series are important for WTC qualification.

The meaningless bilateral T20 series should have been skipped.

India needs to be at full strength Vs NZ, NZ have won last 3 Tests Vs India in a row.

Hope this decision changes in the coming days, but doubt it.

anybody else think we will lose the 1st test? the batting looks very very fragile with oldies on their last leg and young guys who are not tested, they might lose the test in one bad session. what the heck is Iyer doing in a test squad anyway? dude cannot playing the moving ball to save his life.

If there is a hint of spin, then NZ will be in deep trouble.

If the Kanpur pitch is more like Chennai Test (1st Test in the Ind-Eng series early this year), then we could be in trouble depending on the toss.
