LOL No. Those two are habitual offenders. Smith might be GOAT test batsman but an average LOI batsman. Warner has a case over Rohit in Test but he himself is home track bully,hardly could put a bat during last Ashes. So yeah,the answer is NO. Kohli is GOAT T20 batsman who almost won us 2 wt20 on his own...

Both pairs are a combo of star opener/ main 3/4/floater type main player.
 

Both pairs senior members and think tank  of their sides.

 

Both pairs of kind of one-dimension players. Smith and Rohit don’t bowl anymore even though they are naturally talented with their respective  art (leg-spin and off-spin) :)

Now taking those similarities into context I was asking if given an option of a direct swap who one would pick.

 

Obviously  each have their own unique strengths and weakness.

Kohli is better than Smith/Warner in meaningless bilateral ODIs. Kohli is better than Smith/Warner in T20s (both bilaterals and potentially T20 WC). However, for my favourite test format, he is nowhere close to the New God (Smith). similarly, rohit is better than Warner in ODIs and roughly on par in tests, but warner is more dynamic in T20s. this is not an easy comparison... quite a good thread in my opinion. has a fair amount of nuance.

30-2 (I think can't remember) could have easily been 60-4 and it was game over from then.

 

30-2 to 100-3 was a gamechanger imho for 2 reasons:

 

1. Got us out of a wobbly place

 

2. By the time Kohli was done, we were in middle overs with only Murali as threat which Gambo and Dhoni nuetralized.

 

The win looks easy but it could have derailed very easily another time.

 

WC 2011 win was unique.

 

Every single batsman of our top 7 came clutch at a crucial time during QF, SF and F.

 

If you remove even a single person's contribution, we were eliminated.

Rohit is a useless  batsman. Over rated. I still think kohli is a very good batsman for loi over Steven Smith. Warner over Rohit though. So my picks would be kohli-Warner for LOIs. For tests Warner-Smith.

Think if we had moved on from Kohli since 2017 (all formats), it would have been a dream scenario.

 

2017-2021 was the nightmare era. 

 

With amazing test wins no doubt but so many close misses.
