Two egomaniacs working together is next to impossible. It is easy to threaten and make Pant feel bad, but not Kohli. Would have been a absolute disaster.

Agree.  Ponting has the Alpha mentality that Indian superstars wouldn't be able to handle

Ponting comes from a culture that values current performance ONLY. Would have been a disaster with our seniority based culture.

 

Indian team needs a mix. Someone like alex ferguon. The person who is strong and can handle the egos of stars properly.

 

Unfortunately dravid is NOT the correct fit.

Then how did Ponting manage to play 168 tests? He barely averaged 40 outside his peak years.

I heard the entire show.  He started talking about raising a young family and need to spend 300 odd days travelling as an aussie coach which was not possible for him. On question of coaching India he continued that he had a few serious discussions however given similar time commitment he was never in position to take it up; gave example of langer who had grownup kids and had the time. He further continued and expressed surprise that Rahul said yes for india coaching given he also has young kids.

How many years Sachin averaged like Ponting in his peak years.Ponting  did have lean back years but his peak was so great that any team would settle for the lesser returns.

 

Dravid did not do  much better than 40 after his peaks years also.

 

Ponting was an ultimate winner.

Sachin averaged over 70 in 5 years, ponting in 3

 

Sachin averaged over 80 in 3 years, ponting in 2

 

Sachin Also did some of these in one of the msot difficult period for test batters (kinda like current one). Ponting did it in the most batting friendly decade of test batting

You cannot blame india barely playing tests on sachin. Sachin didht crack 900 because he was playing 1/3rd number of matches per year as ponting did. Same reason for not scoring 500, ponting played only 5 match series, sachin played 2 match and 3 match series 

 

Also that winning match has to be the stupidest point ever. Today in last few years india wins every match they score just 300 in first innings. In sachin time they scored 300 for fun. Having a goat bowling attack helps. Today india would lose no match if peak sachin was around
