How long will Ashwin, Jadeja, WK, tail (Shardul, Bumrah, Shami, Umesh) will keep saving this batting line up?

as long as they can, and when they can't we will drop one bowler to play one more batter, we won't drop under performing seniors. If we can do that probably Kohli should have dropped himself first and then followed it up with Rahane and Pujara.

If the lower order starts failing with bat, they will be the one getting the boot. Not the top order. Kohli went great lengths to protect the mediocre middle order. It has strong underlying reasons. One thing he made sure the other two failing batsmen are worse than him. Backing the meidocre players like Rahane/Pujara mean backing himself.

Unlike the Fab four ERA where they played with 6 batsmen these guys for most part are playing with just five batsmen, They are playing on more bowlers friendly wickets. How did Fab four plus do when faced with good teams on spicy wickets.They need some changes like Rahane needs to go.They will be  alright.

Where do people get this nonsensical conspiracy theories why would Kohli need any protection.He is an ATG batsmen he does not need to back a weaker batsman to give himself a longer leash.He is going thru a lull which many batsmen have gone thru in their careers.Even if it is end of his career his legacy as one of the greatest batsmen is set.

He has gone through a massive lull for longer than any other members of the fab 4.

Simple logic. If Rahane/Pujara have been scoring and Kohli is the only one who is failing focus would be on him regardless of whether he is ATG or not.

we saw more of this in the 2nd test as well. in the 1st innings, our nos. 3-5 made 18 runs in total,even if Rat was not out (his awkward prod against ajaz was so irritating). Axar's runs proved to be crucial. I was disappointed that jayant threw away his wkt. he is usually a more organized batter.
