It is a backhanded slap on the face of the team that actually played when their coach says "we wish we had X or Y because ... ya know ... the A B and C who played are not up to snuff."

Way to motivate your boys, coach!!

Say what you may about his beer belly and his tactical deficiencies (personally, I think we fans are not qualified to make this criticism in the first place, but whatever), one thing RJS did very well was prop up his team in public.  He shielded them from fan-criticism.  That's what a coach does.

Yes. That was my initial impression lol It is like manager saying when one of his engineer is missing " Wish we had him instead of you" lol

If  positive frim seies is Dravid realising that Oandya and Jadeja is needed, I will say, Dada needs to give acall to Dravid that he should stop getting influenced by Kohli’s ideas.

Jadeja's time is done in international white ball cricket.  Its time for Sundar.

As 16-yr-old Geeta Dutt memorably sang long long ago, Meri Sundar Sapna Beet gaya...

One local NCAA basketball coach in his post-game presser was saying something like "they just have better players.  We got out-talented ... and it was not even close."

Now, maybe he is trying to light a fire under his players, but damn ... you get paid a gazillion bucks ... how about take some responsibility and say "we have the talent.  Our players are just as good as anyone out there.  I need to coach them up and make sure they play their best every game."

Loosing matches/series is part of the game. you win some and you loose some.. and when you loose this badly to a not so strong SA side somethings need to be looked on and crucial conversations need to happen.

as a result, I would expect to see some changes in the team backed by a strong vision going into WC2023.

If Rahul Dravid feels that we lost this series only because pandya or jadeja are not in the team, im worried. i feel we are on the wrong direction here..

i will lower my expectations. team india is going to disappoint many fans in the coming months

What exactly are their achievements for Team India to miss them? I cannot understand the hype around these guys given how underwhelming their contributions to Team India has been; be it any given format.

The grass is greener on the other side...... applies to this fellow Dravid's statement.

Rohit has not played an overseas ODI since August 2019. Right, we are still missing Rohit. Heck, let's make him captain. Maybe Dravid could have said we are missing Tendulkar.

Rohit is the captain if you forgot.

Dravid must be missing Dhoni as well. He should ask Dhoni to come out of retirement.

Will help Dravid pick the same team as 2019 - Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Rahul, Dhoni, Pandya, Jadeja, Bhuvi, Bumrah, Chahal, Shardul/Chahar, Ashwin to come in for Kedar/Shankar and Kuldeep.

And after the WC is lost, he will say we don't have talented young players.

Dhoni came back as mentor but left after a tormentor of a world cup! Dravid has backed washed up Pujara and Rahane for the SA series and we paid the price for it.

Some bizarre comment from Dravid all through this series (and reflects in his team selections). Kept backing Rahane, Pujara and Ashwin during tests, had taken a dig at Pant for his shot in the 2nd tests, doesn't say a thing about the go slow selfish approach of our senior batsmen, says the top order 1 to 4 all places are taken and there are no open spots for youngsters, defends the non-wicket taking ordinary spinners Ashwin and Chahal, praises Shardul and Deepak Chahar, even defends Rahul's captaincy but whom does he single out for criticism - Iyer and takes an indirect dig at Pant and Venky Iyer blaming the middle order. His priorities are clear.

Will prove to be a disaster if there is no course correction. I had some hope left but after that post match PC, hard to see anything but a steep downhill slide from here on.

The current coaching situation is best exemplified by a saying in Hindi "aasmaan se gire, khazoor mein atake", ‘Out of the frying pan, into the fire’

They have appointed him as coach just for the sake of it, their seems no rationale behind it

About time we have a separate coach for our LOI sides who can bring in correct mindset needed to move forward, our approach and application bith lags behind both in batting and bowling, fielding has remained abysmal for last 8-9 years

How does stat padders get a booster? Is Hardik Pandya one?

You don't know who are stat padders?and who is definitely not?

Stat padding is best done in which position?

Dravids statement was just a cover up job
