For a fast bowler that is a pretty long career. This is the third decade he is part of. Shami started his career 6 years later. Bumrah 10 years later. Imagine Bumrah playing for us in 2032? That is how long it is.

He started at 19 I think. He had that great spell against Pakistan and was on a plane to Australia.

Lighted up Lords, made the world stand up and take notice in Australia, important cog in India winning tests in SA and a bonafide legend at home.

 

Haters can hate but Ishant, Ashwin,Rohit and dare I say to some extent Pujara, Jadeja are the kind of players you will hate on day in day out but in 5 years time after they retire one would realize how good they were. Happens.

 

hell we look at Manoj Prabhakar,Irfan Pathan  (utility), Sreeshanth, RP, Munaf ( flashes f brilliance and raw talent), Sandeep Patil & Srikkanth (pioneers of fearless batting approach in India) fondly now in hindsight for their value and contributions.

 

Now  imagine a guy with 300+ wickets who won you an ICC tournament and plenty of marquee matches and series

 

Doesn’t deserve hate. I demand this man be given the respect he deserves.

Fair  enough, During his later part of his career he improved dramatically.  Also his batting with Laxman was legendary. Spell against Punter.

Dhoni played a part in Ishan't regression. Also he gave him full backing, his bowling got all messed up with Dhoni's strategies. Another reason was IPL. That is where the real change started happening. Didn't know how to bowl in shorter format.  He overall screwed up. His inswing was very tough to negotiate when he was new. Over a period he lost that.

They used to say Botham used to bowl 5 perfect deliveries with impeccable length and line and get a wicket on a bad ball.

 

Many bowlers in these days of T20 have discussed the bad ball like a long hop or a low full toss being a wicket taking delivery.

If Zaheer had a good career, Ishant had a great career. 

Zaheer IMO underperformed and should have got at least 400 plus wickets but he was lazy not to keep a good fitness regime. Limping off the field in Aus and Eng in the first test of series due to bad perp and rigor. Imagine if he had half of Anderson's fitness level. 

As for Ishant he made a great comeback in last 4-5 years after bowling garbage for almost a decade. But I agree at the end he did better than Zaheer.

I saw him live in Bengaluru on 2017 agaonst Australia and I was convinced why Dhoni and Kohli preferred him. Was the work horse for the captain. I liked his career, served India well. People remember only spraying. He used to get crucial breakthroughs.
