SecondSlip Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Innings: 30 Average: 28.03 Centuries: 0 Half Centuries: 6 When will questions be asked about his place in the team? His career batting average has slipped below 50 as well now! He is not even captain anymore and has played over 100 tests now! He has nothing left to prove! nevada Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Purane were his shield. Now both are gone, so the spotlight will be on him solely. The batting average going below 50 seems like a tipping point. Commies like Gavaskar, Harsha etc can no longer say "look at that batting average of 50+!". Kohli would do a better job of preserving his brand value by retiring at this point than by continuing to play.

Rohit Sharma will be his shield because he is the captain but a non-performer recently with the bat. If they remove Kohli, his fans will immediately question the form of Rohit Sharma. That is why I wanted a younger captain in test cricket. It would not have blocked an opener spot and team could have been more flexible. With players like Jaiswal, Shaw, Ruturaj, Dhull etc we have so many options. Also Rohit's fitness is not that great to play in all 3 formats + IPL. We may lose his white ball batting form as well in the process. So only way Kohli will go if the team has performing youngsters but with Rohit Sharma he has a shield. Vijy and SRT100 1 1
Serpico Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 He has developed weakness against every form of bowling I wouldn't even know where to start. If bcci had better relation with him, they could've maybe forced him to play ranjis/counties but now that door is also closed He should feel some shame personally and skip all white ball series after ipl till wt20 and play first class SRT100, Norman and Vijy 1 2

His shield may save his place in playing XI but his average will be dipping down continuously and that will affect his brand certainly. Rohit Sharma's batting did not dip but just given backseat by him given taking up the new responsibility of being full time captain. He seemed a bit casual this series considering it is against minnow team. And just getting into the act of being captain for three formats. I m pretty sure he will come back to runs once dust settles after IPL and it sinks into him that the captaincy goes side by side to his batting. raki05, sorak and Stan AF 3
cricketfan28 Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 I believe in Sarma , he will work with Kohli and bring him back to form. We will win next worldcup under Sarma. f20143g70 1
Lone Wolf Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 Hmm... Maybe he will score a ton vs Bangla bros. not sure but if he fails even in that series... Then probably will get dropped during Australia series.

Majestic Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 In Test Cricket, he is now at same level to Pietersen, de Villiers, Amla, Clarke and Cook, the guys who had their phases when they averaged over 50 but ended between 45-50. Vijy 1
Majestic Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 (edited) Also, Dravid is comfortably better than Kohli in Tests. One need to consider that Dravid batted at 3 throughout his career while Kohli batted at 4 mostly and yet Dravid has better average and more runs than him. No way he is as good as pieterson. Never was. De villiers is superior too. Cook is an opener. 47 as an opener us like 55 as a MO batsman. raki05, Norman, Vijy and 1 other 4

Averages 47 as middle order batsman( also retired with just 8000 runs) and Cook also averages 45 as opener. AB averages 50 but he batted at 5 for most of his career. Edited March 15, 2022 by Majestic

I am sure, if he will play for one more year his avg will fall down to 45 and that would be true reflection of him as a test cricketer. Suhaan, Vijy, Frustrated and 2 others 1 4

This is straight out of the Kohli playbook of making his batting less noticeable when Pujara and Rahane where there to constantly fail. If Hitman removes Kohli, then he goes under the microscope. Mind you having one bad batsmen is much better than having Kohli, Pujara and Rahane all in the same team. Austin 3:!6 and Cricspin 1 1

Nha pieterson scored and was clutch in many big games. Imo I put pieterson as part of elite group. Same class as dravid and hell better than abd. Stats don't reveal all. Pieterson is a fine example.
