He supported Rohit Sharma and spoke out against Virat Kohli after SA series? Which resulted in kohli's ouster as captain? Selected for loyalty rather then performance. Cos I can't think of any other reason. A tried and tested failure over the years in white ball cricket.

Economical and defensive bowler aren't winning us anything.

Bhuvi - Economical bowler

Arshdeep - Economical bowler

Bumrah - Economical bowler, wicket taker in 1 game

Ashwin - Economical bowler

Yuzi - Wicket taker in 1 game , run leaker in rest

  • On high scoring grounds u need economical bowlers
  • We dont have rashid, khan or hasaranga whom also teams looks to just play them off now
  • Ultimately if no one is giving runs, batsman will have to throw wkts at some point

Just for the sake of this logic u cant take guys with less value

Same bhuvi kumar has been smashed to pieces in imp knockout matches. Yes I agree he is a bilateral bully.

Same shami who is the bottom of list has been smashed in bilateral, imp knockouts and australia ................basically everywhere and anywhere. Your point is ?

Off spin, along w/ experience, quota esp. considering Sundar has been in out out due to injury/inconsistency … However, selectors could have been brave to go with Bishnoi, who bowls googlies.

Where did I say Shami should be in T20 team? If you have to lose, lose with young guys who will learn something from these loses. These tried and tested failures learn nothing

He is doing better than other spinners.

He has experience.

Can't believe I am defending but the cupboard is that empty.

Ashwin is on-field advisor  for Rohit :) Would have picked Bishnoi or a pace bowler.   I think India needs imaginary batting depth in the absence of Jaddu.  If only Tewatia had a bit better bowling ability would have been a good choice. Kuldeep is another option they completely ignored. it is  a compromising choice just like lot of other choices.  Bhuvi bowls harmless pies anyway. Not like cranking up at 150 kph. Why not spend some time in batting. Power hitting practice.  If Bhuvi or Arshdeep or Bumrah or Chahal were to be a reliable hitter India wouldn't have had to back Ashwin.

Ashwin reached his pinnacle in 2016. Then completely sidelined. So it is a very very dicey move.
