Probably no quick wants to sloq away and stress out their backs, shoulders or hamstrings in a test series against Bangladesh.

The top and second tier quicks mostly prefer the shorter format against BD and longer formats against higher ranked teams on spicier tracks.

If the board & TM acquiesce, they have no problems getting niggled out or not picked.

I'm also unsure how much of the longer format Umran or Sen have trained for, not as an excuse but just pushing them off the deep end may further deplete whatever remains in the pool.

If Unadkat isn't playing for MI, he probably got a swansong call to appreciate his domestic performance(s) as others here have rightly remarked.

Kuldeep Sen has played 17 FC matches. And took 8 wickets in the 5 day Irani Cup just a month back. Dismissed Pujara in both innings with snorters. Bowled 12 short balls / bouncers on the trot when captain told him to. And was bowling 140 + in his last spell too. Only issue is he sometimes errs in lines.

 

Umran Malik is a rookie in the 5 day format and has played just 6 FC matches. But that includes 2 Unofficisl Tests and 1 Irani Cup match. And he never ran out of steam in the Irani Cup a month back. Kept going at the batsman at full pace. 

 

In Bangladesh, most of the bowling may be done by spinners, so it was a good opportunity to try any of these quicks along with Siraj.

Saini and Saurabh Kumar have been called in as replacements for Jadeja and Shami... although Unadkat added in as well

Contrary to popular belief Bangla pitches have life for the pacers. Might win himself a permanent place in the lineup just in time for the ODI worldcup.

On reading that Quick bowler Saini is replacing Shami and Unadkat is an additional member, my anger reduces a bit. Could be due to the bad comments floating around too.

 

Since he is in the mix, Unadkat can be used as a replacement for Shardul in tests in SENA. He is tall and does get more bounce than Shardul.

 

Problem would occur if Unadkat is played in addition to Shardul in tests in SENA or if he replaces a specialist quick in tests in Asia. And it can happen with this TM.

Why does he HAVE to be a reserve at all?? Umran is there in Bangladesh already and cover for injuries just like Natrajan did for a test match in Aus... what gas Unadkat done to warrant a call up more than Umran.
