Austin 3:!6
With apologies to brother @zen I had to ask this question. He is not even bowling his full quota of 4 overs in a T20 game. Today was the perfect opportunity where he was our best fast bowler but he bowled only two. Will he be able to take the work load in an ODI game and bowl 10 overs regularly? And if he cannot bowl, does he deserve to be vice captain of the team or we could have groomed someone younger to take the mantle from Rohit Sharma after 2023 world cup? zen
Bowling full quota is only a requirement if a team is playing just 5 bowlers and a player is picked as one of the five bowlers. Most teams use 6 to 7 bowlers so not everyone bowls his full quota. Most teams will have players who can both bat and bowl, and used per the match situations. As for me, Sir Don Pandya is the best choice for captaincy and should be made ODi captain asap! Edited January 5 by zen Link to comment

Majestic
Maybe he is not bowling in T20s because he thinks he will have to bowl a lot in ODIs? Either way, Hardik is a 6th bowler so don't expect him to bowl more than 6-7 overs in ODIs..Also, he isn't getting dropped there because his spot at 6 is pretty much confirmed and it will Jadeja, Axar or Sundar competing for no 7 spot. If Hardik gets injured then only a Sundar/Hooda can be played at 6. Coming to Hardik the ODI player, in England, he won us that decider ODI by picking 4 wickets and scoring 70 odd from collapse. So, there is no question on his place in LOIs. Link to comment
Jamadagni
Why so many threads on Pandya's captaincy? What's bothering you all, I don't get it? Let's have a look at other options: Iyer - Piss poor captain and a dummy one too. He needs input from coach for every damn move. Moreover, he shouldn't be in the t20 squad. Pant - Unlike Iyer, he takes his own decisions, but those were usually braindead calls. Who else? I agree Surya maybe a good choice. But Pandya proved himself by winning trophy with the weakest team ever in IPL history, and his captaincy was a big part in it. So for LOIs, Pandya should be captain and Surya to be VC. That's the way to go. sandeep and Vijy 2 Link to comment

He can barely accelerate or bowl full quota of overs in T20i In T20 World Cup, he bowled more overs than specialist bowler Trundler Kumar and the spinners also. He is getting unnecessary flak considering he is Andho me Kaana raaj for us at the moment. Vijy and sandeep 2 Link to comment

Discuss No he does not deserve the VC. He is into his 7 year of international cricket and he is the only player who has played for so long and yet to develop an identity. Kapil Dev was bowler first , his batting was bonus, Bowling was his constant.Dhoni was WK first , his batting was bonus. What is Pandya? This nonsense some guys spew he is sixth bowler so he does not need to bowl his 4 overs is ridiculous. It would have been fine if he chose to become finisher and developed a habbit of scoring with very high SR every innings.Since he is not that guy his bowling becomes very important. He is not good enough to play in the team as a batsman, He needs lot of time to get going and is very limited with his strokes. He has to bowl 4 overs in 8 out 10 matches and then that gives more options to the captain in this case himself. nitinbwj, raki05 and sorak 1 1 1 Link to comment
MultiB48
Totally fragile body ,you can't depend on him for bowling in 50 overs cricket. sorak and raki05 2 Link to comment

diehardpacer
He still needs to sort out his batting issues & bowling is still a work in progress .He seems not strong enough physically to handle all this workload .Fine for T20s . I would give the leadership to either SKY/ Gill or some guaranteed starters in playing XI in ODIs for stability if they become regular & play well. It seems TM wants to keep Rohit/Rahul in leadership no matter what . Either way the captain has to be a guaranteed selection both performance & fitness wise . raki05 1 Link to comment
Moochad
Don't think so, he cant realiably finish bowling a full quota in T20s even. He is always on borrowed time. raki05 1 Link to comment
gattaca
Pandya is not fit even in the first t20 he struggled and didn’t bowl the last over. His batting has been in decline as well. He shouldn’t be the captain for ODIs. Edited January 6 by gattaca raki05 1 Link to comment
vvvslaxman
He loves to put teams in tough situations and see how the team responds. As part of the experiment. He will not complete his quota. won't score runs for 10 matches and see how they react. It is all part of the plan. His final experiment will be , he will not bowl or bat to see how the team will respond. Lord, sorak, Vijy and 3 others 6 Link to comment

ThirtyD.
Again, question needs to be asked what is HP's role in limited overs cricket (T20i included)? His batting SR and bowling avg are really questionable for him to be part of the LOI, let alone to lead or be a vice captain of the team. When will we start picking captains based on merit? raki05 1 Link to comment
sarcastic
He has done his job today. Bowled last few overs and picked important wickets. Link to comment
