In a move that signals continuity, the BCCI has offered Rahul Dravid an extension to continue as India's head coach. ESPNcricinfo has learned that Dravid was approached by the BCCI last week, with the tenure of the extension being open-ended.

However, it is yet to be confirmed whether Dravid has accepted the offer. It is learned that one crucial reason the BCCI was keen on sticking with Dravid was to ensure continuity to the structure he had put in place over the past two years, which might have otherwise got disrupted had a new head coach been appointed.

But if Dravid does take up the offer, his first assignment in his second stint will be India's tour of South Africa, which starts with the white-ball leg from December 10 - there will be three T20Is and ODIs each - and will be followed by two Tests, in Centurion (from December 26) and Cape Town (from January 3). Then there is the five-match Test series against England at home, before the T20 World Cup in June.

if Rohit is continuing, makes sense Dravid does too.

Amazing how Rohit PR has avoided all criticism of him.

I see Ashwin's view on how amazing Aus 4D chess move to bat first was as a part of it. Every tom dick & harry who had just watched the games played in this WC at Ahmedabad could tell you batting second is the way to go, he made the aussies look like some rocket scientist to have figured it out. While not giving anything on the thought process of the team he was part of as to why its think tank wanted such an abysmal pitch (no curator in India is dishing that pitch out in finals without our think tank okaying it).

Its not easy to disrupt a team when its preparing for world cup and a set of players are identified.. Its probably easier to disrupt post the world cup. If Dravid accepts the extension, it will be interesting to see how he phases out Kohli, Rohit , Shami and builds towards the T20 world cup in west indies & odi world cup in south africa

Going nowhere with Dravid. More of the same trophyless seasons incoming. Zero innovation, out of he box thinking or bringing on younger players.

He's literally build a retirement home where it is harder to be dropped than force your way in.

And did zilch to prevent test series defeat in SA against their weakest team ever, and presided over the final test match loss in England as well. SENA victories are much coveted and he failed to make a positive impact.

There are going to be very few ODIs in upcoming years.  T20s are the future whether one likes it or not.  Under Dravid's tenure, our team has performed like minnows in t20s.  A miraculous knock by kohli won us the game vs Pak in WT20.  Otherwise that match was lost. Followed by 10 wicket thrashing in SF.   And to top that all, we could not even reach the Final of Asia Cup 2022.   Why continue with Dravid as coach especially when t20s are around the corner?  U f**king morons. :wall:
